I picked one of these babies up late summer and have since become addicted to it.

HOWEVER

My baby is sick and does not want to work most of the time.  I called Food Saver and they suggested I take it to
a place about an hour from my house for service.  NOT.
I bought it at Coscto and they will take damn near anything back.
The frsutration is just too high trying to use something as tempermental as this.

Costco has the V3840 now that replaces the V2840.  Its supposed to be hands free and judging by the price,
it has to be a better machine than what I have now.

Anyone have the V3840?  Any comments? Should I be looking at something else instead?
All I wanted to do was slow smoke some ribs.  Another addiction created thanks to the Bradley that requires regular servicing...  But what an addiction to have.  Even better to share here with some of the best people on the planet.

Would you like smoke with that sir ?

If I were you I would take that thing back to Costco. I have the Foodsaver V2490 It has worked problem free for 2 years now. I started with one of original versions untill it died a slow death to much salmon I'm sure ;. I think they make a quality machine you must have gotten a bad one.

I have a V3420, I think we got it at Wallyworld, works fine, only thing is that it is sometimes a little difficult to get the bag into the slot tot either seal or vacuum, it seems to hang up on something trying to slide it in, and we have to kind of gerrymander it a bit. Other than that, it works fine. Had a different model, not sure what it was, for many years.  At the price of these things, I would basically look at them as disposable items, not economical to repair.  If it doesn't work out of the box, take it back, otherwise throw it out and get a new one!
So many recipes, so little time!

Thanks

This is a lower end machine that is sort of a clam shell design. You have to lift the top away from the bottom and lock the top to the bottom and hope you have a good seal for a vacum.  Thank god I bought it at Costco, other places would have me trying to get it fixed.  I will buy another at Costco as you just cannot argue about their customer service.  Of course they only carry one model but thats fine by me.

I've had the 2840 for quite some time now and never had the first problem.

I have a v3860 purchased at costco in canada and it is very tempermental. I just try and be patient and it will come around. I know costco will take it back but it still serves the purpose for what I do. Piker

I have the V3840...it is very nice...just gotta be careful (with any of them) if you vac seal something wettish...you gotta check the seal and make sure it doesn't have any gunk on it or it makes it tough to make bags and then seal them...

But I bet I am preaching to the choir...
