Hello everyone,
I was just perusing around various websites and was wondering has anyone tried any of the sausage maker's sausage seasonings? Looks like they all make 50lbs of sausage and you only have to add the cure to it. Some of them sound interesting...has anyone tried them?

I've never tried their sausage seasoning, but have tried their ham and bacon cures and was very satified with the outcome.

I have tried 4 of there Seasonings and they are great, Garlic Pork, Roast Garlic Sausage, Polish Sausage and the wiener Seasoning.  It looks like they use good quality products.  One thing I really like is they come in great plastic containers with a thread on lid, perfect for storing the seasoning in.  So many companies sell there seasoning in non resealable bags.

Mike,
I was wondering about that roasted garlic sausage.......sounds really good. Here's a little side question....When making your own sausage from scratch is it better to use spices from sausage suppliers vs. buying them at the store?

I really think it is up to you which you prefer.  I like the seasonings from a good sausage company, they have done all the work and research to make really great tasting sausage.  It also allows you make consistent sausage over and over.  On the other hand if you make it from scratch you have all the control of what goes into you sausage and how much.  You should really trying make sausage both ways and figure out what works the best for you.  I find the store bought seasonings a time saver.  Either ways it is alot of fun and and you get to enjoy you hard work.

Been using there seasoning too long to remember and never had one I disliked. The only ones I mix myself are the italian sausage theirs has too much salt in it, but that's the taste I've been brought up with. Less salt more fennel.

love the smoke

I have used there honey ham and maple dried beef and was very pleased with it

I have only used one sausage seasoning, and that is a Bratwurst sausage seasoning that Penzey's Spice sells. I now use that regularly than to make up my own brat seasoning, and occasionally will add a little more granulated garlic, and at time cayenne. I don't smoke my brats, and like the Sausage Maker seasonings, you need to add cure #1 if you are going to smoke the sausage.
