Well.....

I have been watching this for a while.   The last episode cemented an opinion that has been forming since the show started airing.

Thanks to Myron I have no desire to ever taste nor utilize anything produced by Jack's old south.    His personality and self stroking ego is just to much.   Apparently he does not have friends like I do or they would have toned his ego down quite a bit ago.    Last night he demonstrated his two faced arrogant attitude by talking to the one guy all smiles and laughs then gutting him as a has been to the camera later.  Any person that would do that has no moral compass and only exists to puff their own chest.    Funny for someone so great he sure doesn't seem to win alot of these competitions.

On a positive note the Trigg guy taking the other guy in as a student was pretty respectable given the competitive nature of the events.

Oh well I will stick to my "Backyard BBQ" (Notice how they said that with a sour taste in their mouth) and be happy.

My opinion is that this is BBQ entertainment, no different than the WWE is sports entertainment
Another version of reality TV.  Is there a script for this stuff?  To some point I bet there is
Without conflict and dislike or hatred of characters, there is no conflict and it takes conflict to make this stuff works
Its the basis for any kind of story...  conflict, heros, villians and somewhere a story line

I really dont think this show has a lot of longevity, its too formatted for my tastes but then again, this may be another indication that I am getting old because I am just not into reality tv.

I might have one or 2 more episodes left in me but its tough to see me watchingany more than that

For the most part, they usually get beat out by locals, which tells me. that we are all better at what we do in our own backyards.

I too thought the show would be different than what it is.

Really don't know that I will watch it again.

Though, I am not a big fan of lots of competition 'Q (too many flavors, not enough smoke, too sweet, not hot enough, and too much  foil) the locals winning usually means that the judges are locals and the locals like the BBQ they are used to.  Story told by a big competitor about an Iowa contest.  He thought he had done particularly well with his pork, moist, tender and flavorful, but found out he came in dead last.  Looked at the winning box, and noticed it was dry and overcooked.  Couldn't figure out why his had done so bad until another out-of-the-area competitors clued him in.  All the judges were local farmers.  That town had been scared by the local doc about trichinosis, that they had for decades cooked their pork to death.  Anything moist and tender had to be dangerous.

I suspected that drama (conflict) would probably be a large part of the show - so I have shied away from watching it.  I was burned on the first reality show Survivor Island or whatever it was called.  I love Robinson Crusoe, Swiss Family Robinson, and Castaway and all shows about people making do with what they had - surviving.  Eagerly, I sat down to watch it, but only found some fat guy running naked on the beach.  Wrong Bucko!

Well said Caneyscud !
Maybe Myron will take to running around half naked in his pit screaming the word "damn" ( as its one of his favourites )
The the Wood Chicks or whatever they are called can judge him !
Or maybe he will find religon or something and go through a transformational change

MAK DADDY

We actually know one of the teams through a friend, Harry Soo (Slap yo Daddy). He is really nice and doesn't talk smack like some of them, maybe that's why he doesn't get much air time... He said the whole ordeal was fun but very stressful, he was winning lots of comps before the show but when the camera crew is in your face 24-7 you are distracted all the time and you start performing poorly. Imagine going to work and trying to do a good job with someone asking you questions all day and sticking a camera in your face, no thanks. My friend was thinking of joining up on some level, maybe after watching he will change his mind.

I have been watching this show and like the entertainment value of it.
I saw the room with all the judges, lots of judges. How can that many people judge? Who determines the top team? One judge, I thought, was there for the food, he said "This is good, bring it on." He isn't there to pig out, he is judging, but I thought he was pigin' out.
It airs again tonight here.
