I'm going to order one.   I've decided I'll get the 1st one.    It'll do everything I want and I don't see myself doing more than one type of meat.    Now my question.   The temp sensor is dropped through the vent on top.   I have my smoker set up in my heated garage and vented to the outside.    I don't see how I can drop the sensor through the top.   Can it be put through the door like the sensor for my meat thermometer?   Any other suggestions.

I run mine through the door - no problems.

Good.   That's what I'll do.

I drilled a hole in the back and slide the probe through there.

I'd take a picture but it is snowing.

I'd be interested to see the picture.   How thick is the insulation?  How big a hole do you need?

BigJohnT

I just drilled a hole about the same size as the probe about 1/8"

Here is the picture

You won't see any ground/leaves today  ;D more than a foot deep in snow!

The smoker is there for sure you just gotta squint a little harder  ;D It's even harder to see today under more than a foot of the white fluffy stuff...

I put the hole in the same place as the door thermometer decoration in the back. I should have moved it up 1/8" to clear the 8 extra rack kit that I installed, but I didn't think about it at the time as I had not invented the extra rack kits yet. Like they say you either learn from your experiences or you stay dumb. There is an over temperature sensor in the back but it is lower down than that and you can see it from the inside. You can take a few screws off the back and peek inside if you want before you drill.

I'm in no hurry to drill a hole.    Just ordered my PID yesterday and I'm sure it'll be a while getting here.    If your snow melts ;), post a picture of where you drilled.

I'm still waiting for my PID and got to wondering.    I'm sure my questions will be answered when it gets here but would like to know now.    With the PID attached do I still turn on and adjust the heat for the smoker of is it all done with the PID?
