Competed in our first BBQ Competition this past weekend. This was a first year event to benefit the National Hemophilia Foundation. I have a cousin with this blood disorder, it is a very costly and hard disorder to live with. My mother in-law also has a similar disorder so it was great to help support this cause. The folks running the competition could not have been nicer and we can't wait to go back next year. In addition to the BBQ competition they had tons of food, live music, kids activities, and a horseshoe tournament.

The competition was a great time. It is hard to beat a whole day of burning some meat, hanging with friends, meeting new ones and having a few cold ones. There were 15 total teams, not a large event, but perfect for our first try.

We competed in ribs and chicken. Our ribs were not our best effort. But we know exactly what we did wrong so we hope to improve next time. We ended up 6th in ribs.

Our biggest surprise was chicken. During all of our practice cooks we had trouble getting the chicken just right but everything came together this weekend and we walked with 2ND PLACE! It was great to get a call at our first competition.

Here are a couple of pictures but you can see them all here...

Congratulations Bryan!  Good job.  Having fun, competing, helping a worthy cause and burning some meat - what could be better?
