Hey yall
Got me 20 lbs of boston butt.  It's been marinating in the fridge and will continue all day.  I want to have everything ready by 6pm on Sunday.  Appx how long in the OBS do you think I need, to get these lil' piggys fallin off the bone.  I was thinking of starting it today (satur) around 4 or 5 pm.  Thanks and hope everyone has a great holiday weekend.  CHEERS!!!!! ;D

Good plan.  It could take 20+ hours on the high end.      Heck, I'd start them even earlier, then keep in FTC. (or pull and keep warm in crock pot)

STC has you covered.

That should be 2 pretty big butts. Mark sure you rotate top to bottom and front to back every four hours or so.

Yep, my two friends have you pointed in the right direction.  Remember, those butts are going to stall at around 160 for several hours.  Don't fret and don't bump the heat up trying to make the internal temp rise.  The "stall" is when all of the magic happens inside the butt.  The internal temp will rise again, I promise.

I've got 60 pounds of butts in the smoker (MAK) right now.  They've been on for 13 hours and just now at around 156.

Have fun my friend.

I have never marinated butts before, wondering if that would possibly increase the cook time due to all the moisture?  ???
I agree with the others start early get them done then nothing to worry about on Sunday.

Do you recommend hickory for butts.  I am all out and only have cherry, pecan and special blend.
What should i use.

Pecan!

FLBentRider

I'll second the pecan if you are out of Hickory.

Out of hickory?  :o ??? How could that happen?  :)

Pecan for sure.  Hope you started by 4:00 today for sure.

Doesn't take long to get all the advice you need on this forum. Like STC said, if the butts are done early just FTC (Foil, Towel, Cooler). You can hold them with this method for a couple of hours or more if needed.

May want to make sure you are in the 225* cooking range.

16 hours in,  started at 430 on Satur.  OBS temp has been pretty consistant at 190-200 degrees.  I have been rotating the racks every 4- 5 hours.  They are looking great.  IT is about 180 degrees and it is 9am on Sunday.  I will update.
