Some of the worst ribs I have had

This week I am traveling in TN and to night I am staying in Caryville, TN and saw a BBQ place and I was hungry for some ribs.  I pull up to the joint and it is a bait and tackle shop that sells food from the rear.  I asked the people coming out carrying bags of food how the BBQ was.  Everyone said it is the best BBQ around here.  I go to the food counter in the rear where they have the kitchen set up and they give me a sample of the baked beans.  I must say the beans were good.  I asked to see what a rack looked like and they open the pan and hold up a rack and it looked pretty good so I order the rack and some beans.  I get back to the hotel and open the box and dive into the ribs and they were the toughest ribs that I have ever had.  They poured so much sauce on the ribs that I could have taken a bath in it.  If these are the best ribs around I would hate to taste the worst ribs around.  I bet the pit master has no idea as to how to slow cook a rack of spare ribs.  They were cooked but I think they were cooked way to fast. The pit is on the side of the building and a homemade unit made out of a propane tank.  I am not the best cook around but I can sure as heck cook a better rack of spare ribs in my gas grill than this joint.  Perhaps he needs to invest in a Bradley  ;D  I ate 1/2 of them and threw the other 1/2 in the trash.  Life on the road!  ::)

Enough ain't enough and too much is just about right.

That's a shame.  Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.  I know when I'm hungry and am expecting more than what is delivered I'm disappointed too.  Maybe next time you'll find the best ribs you ever had!!!

I agree, just not right.

I would have called them or brought back the ribs and ask them to chew on that.

Sailor

I guess I should have taken them back but since I ate 1/2 of them I don't think it would have been right to ask for my money back.  Just chalk it up to experience I guess.  Sure wish there was a way to have a scratch and sniff on the the web to smell and taste the goodies that you all make.

I'm diggin' the idea but I'm scared of what all the salivating would do to my keyboard.

The monkey is likely taking a power nap.  This one looks like it has fleas.

I wouldn't ask for my money back either.  If convenient, I'd just I'd just drop 'em back and say they sucked.  And then tell 'em how you'll post all over the internet on 'em.

I've seen people order steak, eat 3/4 of of it and then say it wasn't good so they want their money back.

I would suggest taking them back some of what you make to show them what real ribs are like.   ;)
That would be more telling then just returning what they have no idea of what it is suppose to be like.

Ain't it funny what they pass off as ribs and bbq in commercial establishments these days?

But you were in the "middle of nowhere" Tennessee.  Hope you didn't stay too long - kinda close to Oak Ridge, and you might start glowing if you stay too long.  ;D ;D   Beautiful country and right near some great striper and musky fishing as well as some great whitewater as well as near some pretty good trout fishing - but not an area known for bbq.  With that said some of the worst bbq I have ever had has been in TN, with a close second - Alabama.  I love to bbq explore - try out the run-down shanties as well as the slick and shiny.  The shiny have their advocates, but the best I've had is quite often in places as you describe, but also some of the worst I have had have been in places as you describe.  Most of the worst places I've been have oven cooked them or boiled them and then drown them in bbq sauce and pronounce them barbecued ribs.  The shiny places will put them into some sorta stainless steel contraption, set the timer and come back later and again drown them in bbq sauce and pronouce them barbecue ribs.  My apologies to those places that actually care and do a much better job than that.
