It looks like the season is starting a little early.  I sure wish we could get that D#$N hole plugged.

You just don't know how much all that is going on down there bothers me. I was born in Mobile and have gone to the gulf all my life. We have a condo booked at Gulf Shores starting 7/1 and for like over 20-24 years in a row we have gone to the Alabama or FL pan handle for our family vacation. I have hauled back hundreds of pounds of shrimp over the years for myself and friends. This just sucks and we are still going because those people down there need help and even if I can't enjoy what I like in a vacation I'm going to spend my vacation dollars to try and help in whatever small way I can. D@mn!

If you extend the current forecast track for about a week, it ends up right in my backyard just in time for the holiday weekend.  The good news is a track forecast that far out is pretty meaningless.  Still it keeps us a bit on edge.  And today I ordered a whole Wagyu (American Kobe) beef brisket and two racks of premium spareribs for next weekend.

Our regions history with hurricanes is that the greatest frequency is with A-B-C storms, meaning early seasons names. Since they started naming hurricanes in 1954, about 12 out of 21 (57%) TX hurricane strikes have been A-B-C names.

This is why we don't load up the freezer going into summer - we're now operating in inventory depletion mode.  Guess we better get smoking and grilling!  ;D

Is it bad if my wife refers to the smoker as "The Mistress"?

Probably won't have a good sense until Tuesday or Wednesday but with every update of the forecast it's more westward bound after it crosses the Yucatan.  Right now looks like it may head into Mexico and miss the US completely.

The Weather Underground (the website, not the 60s radical movement) has excellent Tropical weather resources - with pretty graphs.

Here are the current models:

They have a subscription plan to nix the ads.  I think I pay maybe 10 bucks a year.  Well worth it.

Wunderground is my go-to for all things weather.

If you have a Personal Weather station and upload to them, it's free.

I'm still trying to recoup the cost of the weather station, maybe $10, year would have been cheaper...  ;D ;D

Really??   I pay...  And upload from my OS gear..     So my weather station actually costs an extra $10/year!

When it comes to following tropical weather, this site is about my favorite.  Between this and the NHC, I get way more than I need.

Once a storm gets brewing, the discussion forums can be quite good for the die hard met geeks.

edit:

forgot to add this one - a lot of fun to play with for tracks, models and overlaying radar, etc.  Start mousing over, hovering, clicking and then play with the overlay features on the upper right, try the full screen view.  It's quite a site.
