Hey everyone.  I'm new to the smoking business, but I've got a BDS4 being delivered as a birthday present tomorrow.  I'll have to remember to thank the girlfriend again for this one.

Thought I would say hi to the group and that this is a really impressive forum.  I think I've spent about 5 hours looking around for ideas and recipes to get started over the last two days.

Anybody have any favorite ideas to start out with?

Whole chicken is cheap, somewhat quick, and good to experiment with; ribs using the 3-2-1 method are easy and not too long; butts are long but forgiving.
Take your pick.

Welcome to group Ben!  You must have a great girlfriend to buy you such a nice gift.  I'm going to point you to the recipe website that is primarily recipes submitted by Bradley owners. www.susanminor.org  Lots of good recipes as well as FAQ's about the Bradley.

Don't be afraid to ask even the simplest of questions because the secret here is we were all new to this when we started and we all asked the very same questions.  This bunch of folks loves to help a new guy get started down the right path.

Have fun and be sure to do a "seasoning the Bradley" smoke first.  The owner's manual tells you how to do that.

ABT's are easy and really good. Love smoked pistachios as well. Welcome to the forum.

Like KyNola said, If you got a question ask it.

Hope she realizes the addiction she just signed you up for by purchasing you one fine gift.  Welcome to the forums.  I'd go with a pork butt and/or a bacon explosion.  Learning the art of the fatty right away will pay dividends.  Plus both are hard to screw up.

Welcome to the forum OmahaBen, do some jerky, that'll keep you occupied until you figure out what you want to eat for dinner.

Hi OmahaBen and welcome to the forum.  You'll soon spend more than 5 hours here  :D

Chicken wings are pretty quick and simple.  Smoke a mess-o-wings for about an hour.  I prefer apple but use whatever you like/have.  Remove from the smoker and put them on the grill to finish, a couple of turns.  Baste with your favorite sauce until done.  If your sauce is smoke-flavored make sure the flavor matches the wood flavor used in smoking.  I don't care for sauces with a smoke flavor.  Probably less than two hours for the preheat, smoke and grill.

You're gonna have a lot of fun.

Thanks everyone.  Those sound like some great ideas to get started.  Can't wait to try a few this weekend.

With the amount of reading I've been doing, I think the girlfriend has already decided I'm going to end up addicted to it.  I think I can get away with it though since I fed her purse addiction last month for her birthday.  Sort of a pay it forward thing.

If she doesn't like it after you get the Bradley, get a new G/F. ;D

Just kidding ...you need to keep her. She understands you.

I DON'T want to hear about "purse addictions"  :-\
