That sucks!! Them dang neighbors and their free beer!!

Yeah freebeerpass   ;D

Dang.  Wish I was one of your nearby critters!

Ever think about rigging up a controller on your smokehouse to shut it down at an IT target?

The smokehouse has a Traeger pellet assy on it. Dont know how i would rig that up to shut off.

Sorry about your loss.  Did you count the number of critters that had a smile on their muzzles?

No  :D  ;D them hollow critters know to stay outta my sights  ;D

Rick

This can be done easily by controlling the power to the Treager with a contactor. All for under $65 in parts.

You would need:
Controller
Contactor
Thermocoupler

Thanks Mike

I might implement this on my proofer smoker.

Rick

I use almost the identical setup for my High Limit Control of my large smoker, just a larger capacity contactor and a cabinet style thermocoupler.

That's the line along which I was thinking.  Very simple, get to IT and interrupt the power to the Traeger unit.  Then, if you have your back turned or get disrupted the smoker load is saved.
I like animals, they taste good!

Mike if i take some close up photos of my electronics, heater, fan stuff on my proofer could you tell me if its worth keeping it in and using it for the heat? It all works and has a thermocoupler and switch.

Mr Walleye

Absolutely Rick.

I love projects! Man I wish I lived closer, we would have that baby smokin' in short order.

Maybe post the photos in a new post. That way some of the other members may have some helpful ideas as well.

You can always program one of the alarms in a pid to act as a high temp. That is what I did with mine.

Its a sweetener that retains the sausage color when freezing.

Man what a bummer those sausages looked so great to start with. Did you at least take a bite out of one to see what they taste like. Say did you get your stuffer plans yet?

Hi Pens

That's the route I was going to go with but when I was talking to Suyi from Auber he said if the Thermocoupler, PID or SSR failed, you could have an issue and he recommended going with the system I mentioned above as this was what is used in most commercial operations. By having a completely separate system it will still function if one component in your regular control circuit fails.

Mike, All the industrial furnaces we build all have a separate over temp thermocouple as well as instrument. If you use an alarm, the only real problem that could happen is if the SSR stuck on, which is very doubtful but possible. Your instrument should be set to fail high if the thermocouple fails. That way it will think it is over the setpoint. Now if the thermocouple were to short out somehow, I have never seen this happen in 18 years, it would read ambient temperature and over heat. So it is true that it is safer to have and extra over temp instrument and thermocouple, I just did not want to put the extra cash into it and feel safe using just the alarm.
