Official Vote For A Chatroom--On The Recipe Site.

A member here (owrstrich) has asked about the chatroom. I have not purchased it as I was not sure anyone here would really use it.

In order to find out I have set up a poll on the recipe site. If I see 10 people who vote yes I will purchase it and have it installed.

A vote on this thread will not count. You must vote on the recipe site. This is a blind vote so your vote will not be made public. Only the totals will be made public. There are three options to this vote. Yes--No--Maybe.

Grrrrr not only are we updating our software... right in the middle of it the hosting service starts to updateing my package. So if you get a error just hang on.

EDIT 10 pm EST and all is back up and running smoothly.

I think a chat room would be great, but, I would not like the idea of one person taking the cost on independantly. Yeah, that would be you Olds![;)]
I feel Olds has gone far above and beyond at this point with the recipe site, which is AWESOME!!!!
For this reason alone my vote will be NO.

owrstrich thanks for the offer...but if we do go and add a quality chatroom it is not that much. Besides if money was an issue my hosting service has a free chatroom.... I just don't like it at all. Its got to be the worse chatroom I've seen in my life. [xx(]

This is the one I like: The Platinum. The reason is it has Third-Party Integration & Authentication Scripts that run with our current board on the recipe site. This means protection from idots.

In simple terms a person has to be authenticated by the recipe site or they cannot join in the chat. Now this gives me tools to keep out trouble makers. Believe me I can ban someone using vBulletin 6 ways to Sunday and they will never get in. Plus there are protections built into Sigmachat--two levels. Plus if I really have a problem then there is always Tray (my web-master) and we got tools from the hosting service he can put into play.

And if we still have a problem I bet we can call on good Ole ListerD and his bag of tricks!

Now I know this sounds like an over-kill but after running that voice server I learn a great deal about what can happen when you get an outsider in who wants to make trouble.

On one of the largest garden sites around it got so bad they took down the chat and then only put it up twice per week and it had a live moderator to control the "noise." If garderns can get into a spitting match over who has the best looking rose you know someone with a different type of smoker will come in and cause trouble.

Beside Sigmachat host the whole shebang. This means if the chatroom gets hacked the hack is on their server...not mine. It also means they have to maintain and upgrade the program... not us.[^] And believe me this makes me very happy....[:D]

Oh ya another reason is I will get sent to me daily transcripts by E-mail. So if someone does come in and causes trouble we have a written record of it. I will know who caused the problem and then I can take steps to correct it.

There one thing about this group here that has truely surprized me. And that is I'm the only prick here~~! [}:)]

Now let's see with Doug's no vote that make for 4 yes and 6 more to go~~LOL!

Hi Olds,

I voted Yes, but . . . I can't commit to a particular schedule simply because of the nature of lab work (cells and animals don't know when it's a weekend or evening, though we do our best to fool them [;)]). However, I would participate whenever I was available, so I voted Yes. Consider me a semi-regular user . . .

Ok if I count the one no vote as yes which I know is a yes [:D] we can move forward with this.

However, my business is at night and for the next several weeks I will be onsite with the guys.

SO I need a couple of members to head up promoting this. I have no problem paying for a quality off site chatroom, but without a couple of members to pick up and carry the ball it is pointless.

SO who will step up to the pump and say I will be there on such and such a night to promote this chatroom?
