Drac

Good day all,

Heading to NOLA for a weekend of Mardi Gras parades on Feb 25th weekend.  Been there for New Years in 2009/10.  Did the Square for midnight, had beignet at Cafe du Monde.

Where else would you guys recommend?  I saw a line outside one place on Poydras Street (I think) that we didn't have time to check out.

We won't have a car so we need to keep things near our hotel on Poydras Street and Carondelet.

Thanks,
Jim

I'll be there the weekend before!

KyNola and Ronbeaux can provide some good recommendations...

Have fun,Jim.

Ya gotta try a Mufulata ! There's a good shop in the mall overlooking the river just up Canal St from Cafe du Monde.

Also, there's great hot sauce to be had in the riverfront/Bourbon St /Jackson Sq area.

I also spent a New Years eve there at a park on the river. Fantastic fireworks display!

Drac, tell me what you're interested in in the way of food and I'll hook you up.  Definitely recommend Cochon on Tchopitoulas.  Great smoked food there.  Has a fabulous butcher shop too that you won't want to miss.  You can eat in the butcher shop as well.  How about Duck Pastrami sliders?

Ka Honu

Cochon/Cochon Butcher as KyNola noted.
Drago's for char-broiled oysters,
Jacques-Imo's for a great dinner,
Irene's for duck,
Stanley for breakfast,
French Market for crawfish & oysters,
Johnny White's (on St. Peter) for good local bar,
Coop's Place for beer & gumbo,
Mother's for being Mother's,
Galatoire's for spoiling the lady (jacket required evenings),
Dooky Chase for local favorites,
etc., etc., etc.

KyNola

What Ka Honu said.

Add the following:
Red Fish Grill
Napoleon House
Bourbon House
G W Fins
Deanie's
etc
etc
etc

Drac

That's some nice listings.

Johnny White's looks like a visit for the puppies.

Mother's was the place we saw the line to.  So it's all about the ham there, hmm...

Cochon makes me want to bring a cooler to take some of it home.  Get a base line for some of the stuff I'm playing with.

My wife is now having a crisis.  On one hand there's beignets and hot chocolate at Cafe du Monde and on the other the pancakes ala mode with cane syrup at Stanley's is calling.

Napoleon House is on the tour for history.

I like the idea of Galatoire's but there isn't anything my wife would eat.  She is squeamish, picky, vegie-phob and a minimalist.  Makes it not just hard to cook for her but even harder to find restaurants.  She won't eat seafood, game, spicey foods or huate foods.

Do both

That's what I was going to say!   Take the morning hunger 'edge' off at Cafe du Monde, then head to Stanley's for brunch.

I need to start writing these down and making a map.....

If anyone bets you $10 bucks that they can tell you where you "got" your shoes...don't take the bet. I was told I got my shoes on Bourbon Street (duh) I still own that guy!  ;)

This has been a good news-bad news thread.  The bad news is that I still have 101 days till my annual NOLA run and I wanna go NOW!  The good news is that it reminded me to dig out the last package (4 lbs) of Cochon's andouille and use some of it with eggs for breakfast yesterday and some to make a pot of gumbo.
