I have the DBS 6 rack.  I turned it on before going to bed and set the alarm for 3 am to put the meat on.  I get up and the unit @ the current outside temp.  The display is on on the smoke generator but the heating element nor the puck burning element are heating up.  Any suggestions?

Hi KAG;

Sorry to welcome you to the forum in this manner.

Were both working prior to you going to bed?

If both the bisquette and heating elements are not working, my initial thought is that you have a bad connection, or loose wire. Also the Digital has a 9:40 hour program time, and after that the unit shuts off. I don't have a digital so I don't know if the display remains on when the unit shut off the element and bisquette burner.

Here is a link to some trouble shooting tips. For now concentrate on reading the sections that refer to the Digital Smoker, and All Smoker, but read the Digital Smoker section first.

Bradley FAQ's

If that doesn't help, give Bradley a call on Monday.

Also; how long has your meat been sitting out, and at what temperature?

I opened everything up and checked all connections and have found nothing that I can see as a problem.  I bought the unit in January and right out of the box I had a problem with the smoker heating up but the smoke generator was working properly.  After reading the forums, I unplugged and replugged in everything and it started working, so I just chalked it up as a newbie malfunction.  Now with this problem I think there is something with the unit.

By any chance did the pop the power circuit?

check the following

1) circuit breaker
2) if it is plugged into a gfi  plug be sure it is not  tripped
3) check the fuse on the smoke generator

When you checked out the FAQ's did you try plugging the cabinet directly into the outlet to see if the heating element will work. You will need to swap out the short cord with a computer power cord.

Since the display panel still turns on, then another possibility you may have a defective panel. You will find information about that in the below link.

Digital Bradley Smoker will not turn on.

Thanks for the replies.  I have tried all these things listed ( I did search the faqs) except the defective panel.  I was thinking if it was that it would not even come on but I guess I was wrong.  I will try that now.

Habanero, I can push everything and everything will set, i.e. temp, temp timer, smoker timer also.  So would this still be the issue?

The panel will light up and could still be defective, but if you can set the temperature and burner then the panel is working properly. I'm still inclined to believe its a loose connection some where. Sometimes wires look fully connected but you may need to unplug and reset them. Other times there may be residue deposited on the contacts of the sensor wire, and they need to be cleaned.

This is a mystery to me, but Bradley's customer service will be open today, and you will be able to give them a call.

I have both types and I am not particularly impressed with the 6 tray digital. It is a great idea and if it worked better I would love it.  The temperature probe never gave me an accurate idea of the real temp.  I put in a separate temperature probe very near the installed probe and they were way different, and it was always colder inside than it said.  Final temp is important as I often smoke wild boar.  Often I have had to take the meat out and finish it off in my oven.  If given the choice I would suggest get the older model.
