My wife is going to kill me. Check out this movie and look at the details. Look at the faces. Especially at the ending. I know my ATI 9700 Pro is not able to render at this quality. So I think maybe a early Christmas gift will soon be in order.

Ghost Recon 3

I read that this game was aimed at the high end systems. I can believe it. I think my XP3200 processor will be ok. I may move my ram up from 1 gig. If true THX sound systems are supported I will move that up for sure. Even been thinking of drop down speakers behind the chair. A 6.1 or 7.1 system would be really nice. High end tweeters, dual mid-range and a sub to rock the walls. [^]

Then you all will be saying... Where is Olds? He is never around any longer... bet ya you will be glad to get rid of me too~~! [:D]

Ya it is to come out in PC Nov or Dec... [:D]

What did you think of those images? I thought GR1 had some strong face images...in fact the first time I saw them I did a double take! I see a $500.00 Video Card coming LOL~~! The last image on the movie showed that it wil come out in PC on DVD...Nov-Dec. man thats got to be one big game to install.

I've started gaming GR1 again and met some really nice clans. While at my age I'm slow I still take top score in some of the games. Generally they are sniper games. Funny I've run clans for years and now that I'm not the offers are at least once per week to join someone. Seems these young charge ahead guys like someone sitting back with a big snipe gun, who knows how to use it and when to move up, covering their ares' LOL! Too funny uh?

My snipe rifle of choice is the HK SL9--it is part of the mod DA 4.9. It has a 16X scope. A projectile that will go through support body armor and is ultra quite. It is not a popular gun which is good. Many use that Famas piece of crap... or that OICW/GL or anything with an auto GL. The HK is so quite that you can be right next to me and not hear it go off. Not to rag, but I've heard many a gamer say ...where the hell is he! [^] So they can have there auto nada launcher... it cannot even get close.

When on small-up-close maps I change to the Super 90 M1 shotgun. It carries per clip 70 rounds. With 4 reloads. I call it the unbelieveable shotgun... [8D] It is semi auto and will fire as fast as you hit the trigger. [:0] On the right maps it is the master weapon and I know of no one else that uses it. [:)] I hope it stays that way. I need all of the help I can get at my age... [;)]

It is so funny when you learn the sounds of weapons and you know the guy shooting at you is in full auto and only has a 30 round clip. So as he reloads you jump up run towards him and the blow is Ares away...knowing he can see you coming and there is nothing he can do about it. [:X] [:X] [:X]

I couldn't believe the quality of the images, and movement. I have GR1, but could not get it to run properly after installing XP SR2. I'm not much for online gaming, but GR1 is one of my favorite computer games.

I have installed XP SP2 and had no problems... other than now WordPerfect will not run if I have a graphic's program open first....go figure.

Have you tired to uninstall--reinstalling it? Do you have the Gold Pack or the 3 disks. Ghost Recon, Desert Siege, Island Thunder? If it is the 3 disks then you will not need all of those earlier patches. Just install in the correct order GR - DS - IT and then patch with 1.3 and then 1.4 in that order.

You can get those patches here on the left side bar.
Patches 1.3 & 1.4

If you are having problems with ubi, when you uninstall-reinstall and launch ubi their latest auto patch seem to now have all of the bugs worked out of it. If you go there do a buddy search for Olds1950 and add me to your buddy list. This way you can find me if I'm online. Of course you will need several mods. Let me know if I can help you if needed.

I purchased GR when it first came out, then DS; for some reason I never purchased the Gold Pack. After I installed DS, GR would not run. I had to reinstall GR, then 1.3 patch; then DS before it would run properly. At a latter date I installed SP2, and could never get GR to run since. I didn't know patch 1.4 was out there. I'm going to download those patches now. I will have to try reinstalling at a latter date.

I think I mentioned in a post a couple of months ago that I am going through some renovations, which should have been done by the end of August. I'm now at a point where I have to relocate for 3-4 weeks, while the project is being finished up. The problem is, because one contractor fell so far behind, the other contractors that I had lined up are now busy with other jobs, so I hope 3-4 weeks is a minimum. I'll be moving out either Sunday evening or Monday afternoon, but should be able to login during that period of time.

Well with you having GR and DS you only need Island Thunder. Not the gold pack. However, the gold pack is really cheap today with all 3 included and it auto patches everything. I saw it somewhere for $20.00.

Funny! I never saw Island Thunder sold seperately, but I never looked to hard since I couldn't get GR1 and DS running smoothly. If I get the other programs running I'll try to locate it.

I was looking for the minimum requirements for GR3, and could not find them. Do you have a link that will point me in the right direction.

Hab the best I can tell you now is that they are saying upper end systems. The word on the boards is at least a p-4 2.4 gig, or an AMD XP 2700, 512 of ram, 128 megs on a v-card. No onboard sound.

The big problem IMO once those specs are met is the weak 128 meg v-card. This will cause you to turn down the graphics--if not I bet you will screen lag like #ell.

This is where it has always paid me when I build out a box to do the best. My system is two years old and this is its basic config:

AMD XP 3200 processor
1 gig 400 ram
MSI K7N2 Delta MB with nvida nForce 2 chipset
On board sound is off... Sound Blaster sound card
400 watt PS

By just upgrading my v-card, while my system is not as fast as the 32/64 bit jobs, it will be able to run this game at full tilt and not hit the wall. Not many gamers who have a 2 year old system can say that. Did I say 2 years? The DVD in it is 4 years old, the burner is 3 years old and the 3 1/2 floppy is 5 years old. The back up drive is 5 years old. The sound card is 2 1/2 years old as well as the speakers.

Now upgrading a system does not cost as much as one might think. When I do my next one the only items I will need are a new MB, ram, processor and maybe a power supply--400 watts is getting close to the wall if you add many more toys. My box is a full tower, and until a h-drive dies, or my sound card, or my DVD or Burner I don't have to replace them. All though I would like to have a really good THX sound system.

The v-card I'm giving thought to is the PNY Verto GeForce 7800 GTX 1 GByte DDR2 667 memory upgrade bundle for $679. The problem is explaining 700 dollars to the boss [:D] However, I bet it will not hit the wall for a good 3 years. I've had 2 PNY cards before without any problems. I have purchase PNY cards retail so I can get an in store full replacemnt warranty for 3 years. To heck with having a card die at 18 months that cost 500-700 bucks.

This is a picture of my box. You can see the older "white" is now turning a "yellow." Oh ya and all of my drives are removable. The top drive is in just a holder. The one that is lit is the bootable caddie. The one on the bottom is slaved to the bootable--it is my backup drive I don't turn on until I need to back something up. The top drive and the middle drive both have XP loaded--one is my business drive the other my gaming drive.

When I find out the real specs I will let you know.

You have a nice system. If the minimum requirements stay as is, my only concern would be my video card. Currently I have a 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 video card. As you know, if I just meet the minimum requirements on the video card, I would have to run the game at a lower resolution. But what the heck. If I can get it to run at the same graphics quality as GR1, I would still be very happy.

Gees! After looking at your system, I'm going to have to add a removable hard drive to my wish list.

Well if you go removable the caddies that I use run about $30.00 each. As you can see they are aluminum and on the bottom they have one fan to help cool the drive. Next, there are both visual and audio warnings should your drive start to over heat or if the cooling fan slows down.

Now about once every 2-3 months I have to open of the drive holder pull the drive up (without having to disconnect it from the holder) and shoot the fan with a little WD40. The reason is dust builds up in the fan area. You will know when it is time when you start up a drive and you can hear the fan making noises. Takes about five minutes to do it.

Next as far as a backup IMO this beats anything out there. When you figure just how cheap drives are today it is a no-brainier. Plus if you had to flee a storm and did not have room for your system you can always pull the drives. Slap them back into another system and you are good to go. From a business stand point this is real important to me.

Next, the original reason I went to this is years back I had a hard drive failure, and backup in those days for me was 3 1/2 floppies. Plus this offers a layer of protection when I'm online as I seldom go online when using my business drive. Plus the data for my business is on my backup drive and it is only on long enough to do my back ups.

For me this is cheap insurance. [^]

One idea I've been toying with is a 4th drive but make it a bootable Win 98. The reason is there are some older 16 bit programs I like that simply will not run on XP. Not mention I would like to re-visit Mech2 as I have the Titanium Trilogy. It was the last of the franchise that Activision put out before Microsoft took it over and ruined the game.
