temp way off

I have a digital 6 rack machine.  I set the temp for 220.  It shows the temp going up to more or less that range.  But if I put a thermometer in the rack at the same elevation of the sensor it only reads about 150.  Is this likely a bad temp sensor or something inside the electronics?
