So the weather is improving but still dipping below 35-40 at night. Had to cancel a pulled pork cook today cause it was too cold. So instead i started an insulated cabinet project which I'll work on in the coming weeks.

What I've done so far. I'm a total amateur at this sorta thing so be nice  :D

Framed up                                                                                                                              1 1/2" rigid insulation

Sealed                                                                       Insulated roof                                                          Boarded Up

So far so good. The insulation should make a huge difference in temp control.

Still have to do: Install smoke stack, paint, and trim. Should get some time to finish it up in the next few days. Comments welcome, specially if you see any issues.

Thanks.

Future plan is to have this as the first piece in a multi cabinet project.

Nice idea, and the cabinet looks great.

Camera angles can distort the picture, but looking at how the smoker is seated; is there enough area to open the smoker door wide enough so you can load and unload racks. If not you may have to place a sliding shelf under the smoker so you can move it out to open the door. Do you have enough space between the wall and generator for good air flow? You may have to add a vent, because the air flow will be impeded in a enclosed box. Maybe add that vent on the wall next to the generator.

Yeah the camera angle doesn't do the pic justice. It's hard to see but theres over an inch clearance, the door does open enough to clear the racks. Also, the front door to the cabinet is set up in a way that it opens ALL the to the left to where it doesn't block a single inch of the cabinet opening. I'll admit it's tight, but that's what I was going for, tight and compact so I can add a base and 2 drawer units to either side without taking up too much space on the deck.

I really like the idea of a sliding shelf for the smoker, and the venting..... I'll add a passive vent to the side of the unit, great idea!

Thanks very much for your comments!

Looks like it is working fine.  I had wondered if the Bradley was going to get enough air in order to draw properly.  It seemed to be a pretty tight fit.  If it appears to be drawing inefficiently you could always put some sort of vent on the lower left side of the cabinet to allow more air to be drawn by the Bradley.

Nice job.

Thanks!

I'll throw in a vent after this pulled pork smoke, tomorrow, but for now I'll just have to open the door every so often to do an air exchange. When it warms up later I'll just leave the door wide open.

Does the smoke generator have a fan that draws air or is it just passive cooling?

No fan, just passive...    A small vent next to it would do the trick.

Great job on the cabinet! It being insulated is going to really help you during those winter smokes ;)

Thanks for the comments, it worked out great! The DBS had NO idea it was only 39F when I fired it up. Maintained temps a lot longer than I expected. I'm very happy.
