A Black Adidas box

The Newspaper was rather hard to read. I even tried to read it from right to left like your supposed to!!

There was this wonderful smelling aroma in the box and stuffed inside this plastic jar was this bag of spices!! After 10 minutes of fighting with the bag to get it out without ripping the bag and sending my spices all over the counter. I finally got it out. The smell that is coming through the plastic is really hard to explain as to just how good it smells. I figure it has something to do with the spices being fresh. (Other than the 21 day trip thru the postal service)

Then there is this note that was placed in the box. It was for any customs folks that might have been interested in what was coming my way.

For those that haven't figured out who or where this box came from. It was sent to me from our forum friend Hopeful Romantic AKA Hady who uses his Bradley Smoker in Amman Jordan.

Cue Paul Harvey: Now the rest of the story.

I was having a discussion with one of the guys at work about spices and cooking and the forum. I mentioned that I had a friend that lived in Amman. Come to find out he lived in Amman as a kid. He started telling me about this spice seasoning that he remembered from over there called shwarma and that this seasoning is what they use on gyros. He even brought me in a sample of the seasoning that he uses and buys in Chicago. Prior to him bringing in the sample I had sent an e-mail off to Hady asking him about this seasoning. Hady said that he new of the spice blend it is called Shawerma and he even new a place that made it fresh in Syria. Just so happened that he was going to Syria on business and said he would pick some up and send it to me to try. A couple of weeks later I get an e-mail its on its way. Now it is here and it is time to experiment with it. I figure it will go good on everything except pork, since pork isn't a big seller in the Arab communities. I will try it though. So I would like to send out a BIG THANK YOU to Hady. I spoke with him this morning via pm he said he will be posting again with us soon.

That's a very cool gift from far away! Is that Morgan Freeman in the newspaper?

Nice gift I can't wait to see what you think of it!  ;D

Gyro seasoning, huh...

Ground beef/pork/lamb, mixed with some of that (and perhaps some Cure), stuffed in a huge fibrous casing and smoked until safe.

Chill that log and then put on your rotisserie to give it some char.
