This is why I am nsxbill.  It is my license plate on this car.  .

I was at an NSX ralley at Pebble Beach on the Monterey Bay.  We ate lunch at the clubhouse.  The couple by my car are looking in at the "Road Warrior," Chumley, aka Chump, my 4lb Yorkshire Terrier, who traveled with me when I hit racing events throughout the country.  This is the car that I have a picture of the Speedometer at 188 MPH.  Little 3.0 Liter V-6, but 350HP at the rear wheels.  I haven't driven it in 2 years.  Buddy coming back from Baghdad in November is buying it to race and after pouring a ton of money into it, plans on driving it back to New York.  He has a new one but wants one to fool around with and compete with.  Amazing mid-engine car that can be driven pretty much at it's limits.  Very quick and very controllable.

Nsxbill,

Very nice. Notwithstanding my Arcs_n_Sparks moniker, my login at work is "Dr Detroit." I grew up in Detroit with all the associated horsepower that goes along with moving up and down Woodward and Gratiot at high rates of speed. I have fond memories of moving from 0 mph to 100 mph and back down to 0 mph in a city block in a 383 Road Runner. Keep up the good work....

Road Runner--Bla~~!

I had a 1969 Super Bee, 426 hemi. (If I remember correctly she put out 425 bhp.) You hear that fading sound? That's the Buzz of the Bee that just blew past your Road Runner---heh he he![:D] Ya-ya up to about 60-70 mph a 440 6 pack would keep up--then bye bye!

A RR 383 6 pack and all they ever heard from the line on out was the fading sound of the Bee....
<font size="4">BZZ</font id="size4"><font size="3">zzz</font id="size3"><font size="2">zzzz</font id="size2"><font size="1">zzzzz*</font id="size1">

Don't get me wrong the 383 6 pack was nothing to joke with if you were in something like a Ford Shelby GT 350. On the other hand the 69 Cobia GT 500 was a screaming machine.

Of course you could never stop the damn things in a hurry--no such things as disk brakes in those days~~[:(] I remember warping a set of drums due to heat. When I was 22 years old or abouts I was real dangerous in that thing~~[:0] I never tried to go 188 like Bill but I did see something over 160 and she still had some left, but I got scared and backed off. The guy that owned it before me had changed the rear end. She was not the fastest off the line, but once I hit 50 mph look out. I remember jamming hard from 2nd to 3rd gear around 75 mph and the back end just scream from the rip at the shift. What I mean about that for those that don't know is she would burn rubber for a few feet at that speed! This is where the bottom end power of a big block with the right gearing comes into play....Sorry Bill, try that in a v-6! [^]

For you youngins' that have never see a 1969 Bee this one is even the same color that I had. You got to admit her looks are a MoHo Plus!

This is a 1969 Road Runner. From the white on the side of the hood from what shape of what I can see I think this was a 440 six pack.

Here is a picture of a Ford Shelby GT 500. Another HoMo looking Bitch. [:p]

Here is a picture of a Ford Shelby 350...not as much MoHo, but a dang fine looking ride.

Arcs_n_Sparks you remember sitting at a red light and due to the cam the movement of the car on each revolution of the engine? Or the sound of those twin pipes as she would lobe at the light.? There is just something about a big block engine sound that once you hear it the rest just pale. [^] Kind of like a Harley when compared to the rest. One unique sound.

Oldman,

Ahh.. The smell of gasoline... The sound of normally aspirated engines with huge pistons... The throb of high lift cams at idle...

Yes, once you hear and feel those blocks, you never forget. The RR was my neighbors. Another friend had a Camaro Rally Sport with a 327 that moved faster than the occupants should have allowed. Later, after moving to California, helped a friend rebuild his Mach 1 with a four bolt 351. We had fun.

Great pictures.

I love fast cars.  I drive one of the new SSR pick-ups...traded my Hummer H2 in just in time for the increase in gas prices!  I waited for the 3rd year to buy one because they ultimately put the 6.0 L 390HP motor in the 2005 models.  It is like driving the 46 Ford I put a 57 Interceptor 390 C.I. in when I was in high school..one exception, it has a warranty.  With the top down, exhaust rumbling, it makes me want to "Cruise the Main" again!  I was offered the 6 speed model, but opted for the automatic...Getting old!

As an FYI for all you big Hemi fans, and big block fanatics from the 60's, on a bad day, my NSX pictured could always maintain a mid 11 second quarter mile with the 4:55 gears that I put in a couple of years ago.  Surprised a couple of the new Cobra Mustangs with ability to blow their doors off.  One day punched off with one, and after about 3 miles of them trying to keep up, I slowed down and got a big thumbs up from both of the occupants of one of those new Mustangs.

When I sell the NSX to my buddy, already have a S600 MBZ V12 Coupe picked out.  I don't need a race car any longer, and just want a nice car that will hold 4 people to go out to dinner, or drive to Tahoe or Vegas in comfort.  Love "The Vegas!"

(Ya there was a Chrysler 426.) What a nuts-o ride that was.

Of all of the rides I had growing up the one that sticks in my mind the most is the car I nicked the Gray Ghost--a 1964 Goat. She was 2 years old and I was 16 years old and few months.  389, 4 speed, rag top. Not the fastest car I ever owned, but she sure holds a sweet spot in my memory.

This is the best picture I could find that looks like her.

Later on in life I picked up a 65 Goat but it was never the same. I guess I'm a one Goat person. Of course being 16 years old with a Goat under your butt is a memory that is kind of hard to beat. [:p]

I remember one of the rich kids attending Junior College had a 1964 GTO his Dad bought for him the first year they came out, and WOW!  4:56 gears, Reverb Radio.  Tri-power.  OUCH was that fast.  Powder Blue  don't remember the interior, but it was a Hottie!

Speaking of bigass weapons, my buddy is heading to Iraq right now to patrol the Euprates on a SURC boat.  He will be a "bow gunny" using one of these mounted on the bow. http://www.usmc.mil/marinelink/image1.nsf/ae82f18a8e1b160b852568ba007e7e5e/2f2d14314b50756f8525697a00567cd3/$FILE/fireg.jpg

YIKES! [:0]

The scary part of this picture is the lack of  "Big Ass" protection for the gunner. Our troops are such a vulnerable target in the open like this.

I would much rather see these kids cruising up and down their hometown main streets in hot rods and hope that alternative is coming soon.

Why am I car54

In the late 80's I was very involved in watching car racing which I have always loved, but now I had cable. I loved Formula 1 and Champ cars, road racing not ovals. It became frustrating so I bought an open wheel racecar. I was very successful winning 40 % of my races. One day I was hooked up and going after a track record when I spun out and went into a marsh. No one could see me so I thought of the "old" television show 'Car 54 Where Are You'. Because I was born in 1954 that became my number.

There is nothing like racing at 1 inch above the ground. My car was a 1976 Tiga Formula Ford. Not much horsepower bur very light and agile. I had better times then Corvettes.

I have had 3 bad accidents. One nearly head on accident on turn 1  in Road America, one roll over when a rookie turned into me (he flipped) and one major case of trailing throttle over steer when I had to get off the throttle in a turn which landed me in a tire barricaded tree. I walked away from all of them.

My car is the 1st one in the picture
