Well I have this nice overlook out back. It has a beautiful Maple tree to sit under and we do. So a couple days ago my grand kids were going to go and sit there. I heard a scream and came out to see this. Hes in fresh water for a week or so to cleanse system then  eats. Now to figure out how. Soup, smoke, grill, casserole or what?

Well I did see an episode on a survival show how to cook it but my guess is your fed it some lettuce, took a few PICS, taught the kids to keep their fingers away from that mouth and watched it walk away. Slowly!  ;D

With a little luck, you might not get Salmonellosis or any of the other nasty infectious diseases my brethren (and sistren) carry to make themselves less attractive to human predators.  But then again, you might (and you'd deserve it).

Wondering if Viper is serious? ???

Poor Turtle and right at mating season too.

In Mexico I've eaten meat from the sea going variety many times, grilled, and it is delicious.  With fresh tortillas and beans it is a feast.

Didn't realize we had so many turtle lovers on a food site. I know they are protected in some areas but Snappers aren't in Ohio. Here there is a over abundance of them. They kill a lot of ducks and eat tons of fish. Also there is a season that protects the breeding. I don't usually bother with them but figured it came to me so i'd try. People around here eat them all the time. Since catching it I have had quite a few people getting on me about letting it go. Whats the difference about me eating a turtle I kill then eating meat including turtle you buy in stores that some one kills for you?

Viper most of the flack your seeing here is all in good natured fun. Since Ka Hanu has always portrayed himself as the Great Turtle of the sea. Everyone is picking on him more than on you. Me I would have that bad boy in a cooking vessel of some sorts be it grilled smoked or fried. Make sure you change the water you have him soaking in

Thank you! Had me going for a while there. Yes he's in a 55 gal. barrel of fresh water. We change it once to twice a day for around a week. I personally never fooled with killing and cleaning one.  But I was giving it to my son who eats them quite often. Then wife said she'd like to keep this one and try it. Boy always sends a small bowl but not a lot. LOL So i figured we'd make turtle soup and may try something different.
