You can change your name with the /nick command. When I go into chat, it does not show up on the menu bar. I think it is still hosed.

I know this version of the chat room just plain sucks however until the old chat room we had is upgraded to work on this version
of SMF ( 2.0) we are stuck with this one. I apologise but its out of our hands.

You can log in and use this chat here is a brief description of the procedure's

Click on the Chat Button
Choose > Public > Menu > Login in (or Register if you haven't)
After you login in click on the Square box beside the X button to make it full screen.

This version doesn't have all the features of the other one.

I do monitor SMF modifications site and as soon as the old chat is upgrade I will have it installed.

I Chatted with "Smoken Soon"  for fifteen minutes  and was able to change my name from guest to keymaster easily. It is not like old but it works with help. Better than Hackers invading our forum I guess and posting dumb crap :o :o :o

When I tried to register, I got a "This Email Address has already been used" error.  When I tried to sign in it told me "User not found."  That sucks.
