I just replaced my good gear motor with the one from the Surplus Center. The motor mounting bracket went on with no changes. I had to file about 1/32 of an inch off the flat spot of the new motor shaft to make it fit the pivot arm. I placed the pivot arm over the motor shaft and filed the extra length of the shaft flush to the pivot arm. The screw holding it on was then reinstalled in one of the two shaft holes

I cut the wires from the old motor and installed spade connectors. The motor assembly was reinstalled for a test. I pushed the advance button and it started to work until it jambed.I loosened the motor mount bracket so that it could find it"s own center and it worked. I then put in some small washers to lower the whole motor assembly and tightened the screws up and it worked again. The washers were 0.040 thick.

Washers are under the motor mount bracket to lower the assembly.

It seems to work and right now I am testing it for a couple of hours. It takes about 15 minutes to install the new motor. Test it before closing the box up. As I said, I had the lower the motor assembly by .040 to get it to work. This may not be true of all replacement motors so you might have to plat with it a little.

I just did a 11.5 hour smoke with the new motor. There were no problems with it. I did have a bubba puck jamp on me. Either I put them in wrong or because of the cold they frove together. The important point is that new new motor ran with out a problem.

So, what is the Surplus Center?  Is there a website for it?  What was the part number for it?  Thanks.

Thanks Rob.  I ordered 6 of them to have them on hand...never know!

I am doing great.  I swim about 1.5 hrs every other day, and the other days I do weight lifting for about an hour.  I walk a minimum of 30 - 45 min every day, and now down about 130#.  The wt. goal I set was to be at 225# by Springtime.  I am organizing a sky diving event out of Lodi, CA, and two of my kids and a couple of friends are joining us already.  If I can get 5 more, get a better discount for 15K feet tandem jump.

At age 61, it is a sure way of experiencing those endophins again!  I jumped in the military and just have to do it once more before I croak!  Looking foward to it, and only about 30# away from goal.

Not smoking much...actually not really eating much either.  The surgery I had makes the stomach only about the size of an egg.  I am an unbelievably cheap date now for dinner!

Ultimately will be heading over to Thailand in early 2007 for skin removal..and there will be a lot of it.  Understand it is pretty painful, but recovering on a first class beach beats the hell out of a US hospital bed.  Going to use Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok.  http://www.bumrungrad.com/htm/eng/main.asp.  There was a piece done on them on 60 Minutes.  All the Plastic Surgeons are board certified US trained physicians and only RN staff take care of pts.  Supposed to be world class service and at an affordable price.

Hope the rack sales were good for you...nice to have a little something on the side...I always did...for those of you with dirty minds, I mean a little business on the side!

Happy Holidays!

Bill

Bil,

I am glad to here that you are doing good. I am sure that your surgery has been a life changing experience and has challenged you. I do not have a weight problem but my favorite TV show is The Biggest Loser. Those people and you have tremendous strength.

God bless you, Brad

I already felt like the biggest loser prior to losing the weight.  All winner now!  I tried for years...everything I could, and finally opted for the final answer.  Now just have to keep pushing myself to "move the meat!"

High folks. I have two replaced sycro motors in units and have had no problems what so ever. I did find out that if you store the units at below minus 20 you want to make sure the generator is on the smoker and warmed up a bit before you pulg it in and advance a puck. The grease in the motor doesn't likt that cold of temp and it tends to start stripping the nylon gears out.[8D]

Big or small you can smoke'm all!!!
