Some snaps of a tiny side street market that we found prowling some back streets near Cecin Mare -

The next pix are up the coast in Livorno.  The market is largely indoors (which explains the color shift on many of the pix).  The market is enormous - the size of a large warehouse.

Finally some shots of the harbor area.  Some NATO ships were tied up next to each other and an Italian windjammer -

German Mine Sweeper - we talked to the chap near the gangplank.  Turns out he comes from an area near my wife's home town.

Cool pics, Is picture #9 a seasoning box or a sand box? looks like a sand box but that makes no sense to keep your cheese in a sand box :o

SiFumar

Just amazing pictures! Tks!

I'm thinking that pic #9 is a big box of pepper the cheese is sitting in.

Nice pictures...I would like to have about a half dozen of those hams hanging in that picture... :D

And we think we have it great over here!  Sighhhh - gotta go to Krogers after work.

I'd just settle for one of those hams!!!

In pic #9 it's a mixture of spices and ashes.  There's a cream colored French cheese that we like that has a thin gray line thru it that is ashes.  Ads an interesting and not unpleasant taste.  A number of French cheeses made with raw goats milk are covered with ash.  When these babies get ripe they will flow under their own weight at room temp.

Some really nice pictures.

Would be nice to visit the markets.

Thanks for posting the pics.

Glad you liked 'em.  I never got around to posting the many, many pix of ham stores and markets in Spain and on Mallorca.  There are dozens of types of hams.  Prices vary greatly depending on type and quality.  Most of the ones I posted in the Livorno market run from about €40 to €200.  In Spain a whole ham (6-7 lbs.) will run anywhere from €75 to €2900 for an Iberico Belotta Gran Reserva.  The latter is to die for though.  Wish I'd been born filthy rich  ;D
