I went to the sausage supply place for the first time and I got some sheep casings to make snack sticks. They came on a tube. I asked why? I was told that it assists getting the casings on the stuffer attachment. I was told you put the tube over the attachment and then slide the casings off the tube onto the atachment. I just opened them up to take a look at them and the casings are salted. I am confused...do I still need to soak the casings or use as is? I guess I can soak the casings tube and all. Has anyone had this experience?

Thanks,
JJ

I've never used 'em JJ and so can only offer opinion.  Yeah, if they're salty, I'd rinse and soak them for 30 minutes or so.  Then, oil up the stuffer tube and slide 'em on.

Jiggerjams,
Just a short answer from Australia. I have used these type of casings a lot, They are specially selected and lightly salted too, so they need flushing out
I have also resalted lightly the left overs and frozen.
No hassles or troubles when used again.
They are a bit more expensive but worth it

Thanks Crusty. I found after using them that one tube was good for 5 pounds. They are slick to use.
