I know prime rib is a more expensive cut of meat but was wondering if a rolled roast would be just as good? Has anyone smoke prime rib or a rolled roast? If so what temp do you take it to? I like a little touch of pink in my prime rib... More done than not done.

A "rolled roast" (or whatever the cheapest cut you can find is) won't taste much different from the most expensive cut you can find (if you're going to cook it to medium-well), so you might as well just use whatever is cheapest.

Think of it like shopping for a burnt-down house.  It really doesn't matter how nice it originally was.

What Hal said...don't waste your money on prime if you are going to cook it that much..Pime rib isn't friendly at medium/medium well...

For rolled roasts it depends on what cut it came from. I've seen rolled roasts that came from the chuck, top loin or sirloin.

As similes go, that's cold, hal.  Can I use it?
