hello,

new to this forum although I have been reading it for a bit now. I currently smoke mainly fish(currently have a little chief) that I have had for ten years or so. am going to be buying a Bradley and expanding into more areas of cooking.. this looks like the place to be for info and taking the learning curve off. And with time hopefully contribute.

I do have some questions though in my purchasing decision. and not sure which set up would be better.

from reading it sounds like both the OBS and the digital have bad thermometers. so my two choices are

1) digital smoker and maverick thermometer.

2) OBS with P.I.D. and maverick thermometer

assuming that option 2 is the better witch P.I.D. would be the one i would need I have seen the link for Auber but single probe, dual ect. also have seen some boxes on here that have them flush mounted into them, and think that leaves a cleaner look.

and a final note as I stated before all i have is a little chief it has sat outside uncovered for 10 years wrapped in a makeshift cardboard insulated bag. with ZERO problems always just plug and play. From reading this web site it looks to me as an outsider there is a bit more maintained, as well as part replacing that goes on with the Bradley? or this being a main forum does it just look that way and in fact for the most part they are flawless? thanks again for help in picking my new smoker out and new forum to hang out on..
thanks,
Jake

so I went ahead and bought the OBS and cover should be here in a week or so, so looks like I am going with option 2 after reading a bit more and feeling like this was my best fit. I would still like some help on "setting it up" as far as the best P.I.D. for the $ and it already looks like i will need a maverick thermometer. excited to get this and try it out. thanks for any help on the things I will need to do to it.

welcome to the forum.

Option 2 would be best, with a single probe PID and maverick 732 dual probe. You  really  do not need the dual probe if your running the 732, Also on the  Pid get the SSR version with the 25 amp SSR this way you  can handle the additional heating elements id you  decide to do that mod.

on having the Bradley outside, it is a very good idea.. im sure a few will chime in with  what they  have  done. here is how i have my Bradley.

Welcome  great forum, great people

thanks beefman, after reading the forums looks like you know your stuff. I will go ahead with that P.I.D. you recommended as i will probably do the upgrade after warrantee runs out. also sweet set-up! but what is with all the shasta? just curious, also for starters I will probably build a roll cart and keep it in the garage or i have a slight cover on back porch if i keep it close to the house. and will eventually make a more permanent place for it. thanks again for the help.....

beefmann

after the smoking process i put the shasta in the bowl for a  little added flavor to the meat, have done it  with water and hated the  steamed flavor,,, t

yes it is, you may want to try  different beverages of your choice, it just adds a little twist on things

hybridcx

you dont happen to have a link to the right auber to buy do you when i copy and paste the ifor you gave me in there web site it pops up a 70$ unit and i do not think that is right...
thanks want to get the right on, and is it a plug and play? thanks

hybridcx

nice man I appreciate the help, and for under 80$ that?s what I will be doing, also I am assuming you don?t have to be to wire savvy to pull this off? pretty easy to piece together? thanks again for all the help!

hybridcx

and i will have to try around with the soda trick also.....

hybridcx

also just curious as to why this will work better with the dual than the plug and play? I am going to do this one for 1) it will look much cleaner when it is all done and 2) its 80$ compared to 140$ thanks again the savings and finish look alone is worth it.
