I think there is a US version of "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" on TV in the States? Well, a recent question on the UK version was:

Q: "Translated from the Latin, what is the motto of the United States."

A. In God we trust.
B. Out of many, one.
C. All as one.
D. Striving together.

This question was for £1 million and the guy got it wrong and went back to £32000!!

I know what I would have answered as did Chris Tarrant, the presenter.

Interested to know what you guys in the US would have answered!!

Being a veteran I learned that in boot camp; the motto is "Out of many, one."

Of course you guys are all correct.

Trouble was the guy went for "In God we trust" which I gather came about in the 1950's through US Congress, which was never translated from Latin.

To be honest I would have gone for the same......is'nt that on US dollar notes?

Anyway, the programme makers have agreed it was an ambiguous question and got the guy back to have another go at the million pound question, probably due to the fact that it was a charity programme and a children's charity had lost out to the tune of £468000!

Hope he has better lick next time. Thanks guys.

IN GOD WE TRUST was added to coin currency in 1864 as the USA fought our Civil War. Religious sentiment on both sides was quite high at the time.

UNDER GOD was added to our Pledge of Allegiance in 1954 as we fought the Cold War against the Communists, which of course we eventually won with much help from our UK friends in MI6.

IN GOD WE TRUST is indeed on all of our dollar notes.

An American Quarter Dollar contains what many consider the "Trinity" of American cultural philosophy. They are the mottoes "LIBERTY," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
