Dual element for DBS

On a DBS,does a guy have to worry about putting a switch in for the second element as the controler should control the temp anyway,by not letting the temp swing out of control,but allow for quicker heat up and recovery times.

I believe you have to run it with a PID because it is not designed to run with anything other than the 500w element. I'm sure I will stand corrected on this. :D

You don't have to put a switch on the OBS either, it is optional, but does come in handy if your PID fails, or if you don't want to hook up the PID, the switch allows you to run it as it was originally designed.

Thanks guys for the input,i'm still wondering though is the controller on the dbs not the same thing as a PID,it controls temp and time.What would the difference be.

The difference is how many amps it can handle. I won't handle duel elements  ;)

You need to run both elements through a relay that can handle the load, the pc would be pushing its limits with two elements.
I also added a second thermocut off inside the smoker ( back pannel) so each elements has its own. Running both elements on one thermocut off would be pushing its limits to.
Also my switch came in handy, i can select 500w for smoking on a warm summer day with out any wind or 1000W for a cold winter day.
One last inexpensive option that worked great for me was adding two resetable fuse in the rear of the smoker next to my 500/1000w switch
on  for each element. ( extra protection ) because i ran both elemts through a relay the elements are no longer protected by the fuse in the back of the digital box
so adding these two resetable fuse made sense.

No it is not. Although the temperature readout for the Bradley is digital, it uses a standard type thermostat that you would find in your kitchen oven, so you will get those wide temperature swings.

The temps in the digital can swing +/- 15 degrees sometimes. If you are making sausage or going to do fish a PID is the way to go. Temp swings can go +/- 2 degree.

I have been desperatly trying to get a 220vac smoker with no success, bradley does not seem to make any exceptions to sell me one, the UK wont ship to Greece
and the Greeks wont answer my e-mail..
So i am left with purchasing a 110V model and run it trough a 110/200 converter.
If i get a PID i guess it would be a waste to get the digital version , i would be better of with a bradley original?
