This may seem like a dumb question-????????

If I want to use cherry & hickory bisquettes(50/50) for a pork Boston butt and let's say (for simple math sake) I am going to use a total of 12 bisquettes.  Should I alternate cherry/hickory every other puck , or just go with 6 hickory-then 6 cherry?  Does it matter?  Thanks, Smitty

Alternate them for the best mix of flavors..       That's going to be a lot of smoke.

alternate between the two... i would use maybe 8 pucks total

Thanks guys.  If the hunk of pork is 8-10 lbs - would 8 pucks still be enough?  I don't want to overpower the smoke deal either.  Smitty

I apply 4 hours of smoke to my butts. Most folks here say that any more makes no difference. It's up to you. Experiment and see what works for you. :)

Like the guys said.  8 hours is a lot of smoke for the Bradley.  I have never rolled smoke over 4 hours and mostly find that 2 to 3 hours is enough.  But with that said, you will have to find the sweet spot as to how much smoke you like  ;D

Enough ain't enough and too much is just about right.

My math says 12 pucks = 4 hours.

Where are y'all getting 8?

I put 12 pucks on butts.

I also use 12, for a total of 4 hours, for butts.

If it is that small, I would cut the smoke time to 2 to 3 hours. In most cases, you would have a greater surface to mass size than a larger butt, so less smoke time should be needed.

Thanks!  I think I'll give it 2 hours of smoke with the 50/50 hickory/cherry combo.  I have applied Butt Rub and it's sitting in the fridge wrapped in plastic till tomorrow.  I'll report back.  Thanks again to everyone! Smitty

Thanks Randy!  I kept going back and reading and kept thinking "Isn't 12 pucks 4 hours worth of smoke?"

What if the butt only weighs 3 lb.?

Then you have a small butt.

::)

You should yield about 1.7lbs of pulled pork.

Dang if I know where I read 8 hours of smoke.  Went back and read the thread again and no mention of 8 hours.  Guess it was one of those DUH moments  ;D
