3rd try finding tri tip

It's shaped like a 7, is this a real tri tip? The other 2 I bought ended up not being the real thing but were very tasty.

That looks like a (slightly too expensive but authentic) tri-tip.  Basic (classic Santa Maria) recipe is rub with one part salt, two parts each of pepper and granulated garlic, red oak smoke to about 140^o IT.  Then rest and slice thinly across the grain.  It ain't rocket science but it's delicious.

Thanks guys. Can't remember who said to look for a 7, but I've looked at many stores and finally came across this at Walmart. Looking forward to cooking this for the superbowl.

Smoke/cook to your degree of doneness and then slice against the grain.  The hunt will have all been worth it. :)
