What wine to go with smoked cheddar cheese?

Going to a party and taking some smoked cheese with.  Anyone know what wine varietal to select?

If you like Red tempranillo, nice smokey and tobacco flavor. White a lightly oaked chard or a viognier is really good.

Most any good RED wine goes with  smoked cheese.  My preference is Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot in that order.

Thanks for the replies.  I went with a nice 2005 Syrah I had saved and a Cab Sauv.  They were great with the cheese.

My suggestion would have been "whatever you like to drink", and my preferred wine (if I had to drink wine) would have been either a Riesling or something from the Boone's Farm line (yeah, I know).
