So I go in this morning at 5:30 am for cervical disk surgery. Go through all the prep and I'm rolled into the operating room. Get put under and next thing I know I am waking up in the recovery room with no surgery done. Just as they were scalpel in hand ready to cut, the EKG readings went a bit abnormal so they erred on the side of caution, called it off and called in the cardiologist.

After discussion it was decided to send me upstairs to the cardiac ward and perform a cardiac catheterization. That is where they go in through an artery in your groin, throw in some dye and track your arteries for blockage and your heart function. Once in there, if they found blockage they were going to put in a stent if needed.

Well they went in and it turns out everything is ok. Seems that my normal EKG is normally abnormal and not an indication of blockage. In fact when the wife asked the doctor if I had the normal 10-20% blockage for a man my age, the answer was no. They found no signs of ANY blockage and everything was in excellent shape. ( Bring on the fried food!)

So now the cervical disk surgery is rescheduled for Friday morning (so keep praying a little longer, so far they are doing good).

The only bad part is that I can't shower for 24 hours. So  my neck, parts of my shoulders, and my groin from above the knee to the belly button are all this  off -orange betadine color. Looks like I used a cheap rub on tanning oil from the 70's.

So on to Friday.

This was actually a really good thing. You now know that the ticker and all its paraphernalia is doing fine and you can eat all the pulled pork, etc. that you want.

Those EKG's are a great tool, but I have found that they are wrong quite often. Safety suggests follow up with other tests, but no cause for panic with an abnormal EKG. About every third one I have reflects that I had a heart attack in the past. Never happened and I had the same procedure as you with perfect results.

Though the surgery was delayed, that was a great decision by your surgeon, and you have one less health issue to be concerned about.

WOW what an awesome health care system you have. The doctors care about your health and don't take any chances. The delay sucks but it has given you some good news and the delay is only a few days. Good luck!!!
