Has anyone done a pork butt in a crock pot? I am thinking of doing one next weekend at the cabin. I won't be able to bring my smoker so just wondering how long of a cook it would be. What temp for the crock pot and do you pull at 195 still? I am assuming I would not need the ftc. What type of seasoning?

I have never really done one in a crock pot but have done a slow cooker. Close but different. When I do them in there, I use the same rub I do as in the smoker and cook until it falls apart. I set my slow cooker half way from medium to low and it can take 8-9 hours in mine. In the crock pot you could also add onions, carrots, celery, garlic.....etc. to add more flavor.
Never try to teach a pig to sing; it wastes your time and annoys the pig.

I have, used a rub, added onions, carrots, potatoes,  some herbs,,, cooked on low for 8 to 9 hours till it fell apart... yummmmmmmmmm

Kinda depends on what you're trying to get.  If you're looking for pulled pork, a slow cooker set on low will give it to you - usually in about 8 hours.  Don't worry about pulling it at temp - an extra hour or so in the cooker won't hurt it (and if you have to lift the lid to check the temp, you're increasing the required cooking time by about 20 minutes per check).  You can add liquid smoke and rub or other seasonings for flavor but of course you won't get any bark.

I tried this not long ago. I smoked then vac sealed and froze the butt. About 2 weeks later I put in slow cooker until tender enough to pull. Did not add any juice so that the bark would stay. I kept in in the cooker for about 16 hours. Turned out pretty good. As a matter of fact I vac sealed and froze the left overs and have so in the RV with me right now. May have to heat that hummer up and have some.

It just occurred to me (with a little help from Wildcat) that if you're carrying the pork up there anyway, why not just smoke "normally" (until it's done) and pull and freeze, then thaw/reheat in the crockpot when you get to the cabin?

I would normally but would not be able to monitor smoke during the week. Not old enough to retire yet and smoke when I want. Usually I  do 3 or 4 butts then vac pack and freeze but don't have enough packages left. :o

You do not have to cook it completely. Just smoke for 3 or 4 hours like I did. Works fine.

Should I add apple juice or beer? If so how much. Just doing 1 butt with a salt lick rub. Going to add some onion and carrots. Butt is about 7 lbs. Going to do it at home then take up to cabin after pulling.

If your not going to smoke it or not concerned with a bark and plan to do it in a crock, then I would recommend a small amount of applejuice. Say 1/2 cup or less.

Sorry no pics but butt came out excellent, nice and moist. When I got home form work cooker was off,not sure why I did not set a time on it just set it to 250 and left. Took temp of meat and it was at 154 so I turned cooker back on at 250 for another couple of hours, temp got to 165. Thanks for all the help.
