Display Issues

My BTDS76P had a problem in direct sunlight that made it hard to read the lit segments on the display.  I wrote Bradley with a suggestion and they never responded so I fixed it myself and Iwas wondering if I'm just picky or if other folk have a problem with the display in the sunlight?

I just put my hand over it to form a shadow so I could see when in bright light conditions. Has worked for the last 6-7 years just fine. What was your idear? Post some pictures of it.

Welcome to the forum.

I had the same problem with my DigiQ II, so I built a small box out of cardboard, and made a hood, similar to a lens hood. This would keep the device in the shade at all times, so I could read it at a distance. I also would be interested in your idea.

I made a circularly polarized filter 5 x 10 cm.  Stuck it on with double faced tape.  Sunlight (unpolarized) goes through the filter and comes out left hand circular, reflects off the innerds right hand circular and cannot get through the LHC filter (cross polarized)  Light from the display (unpolarized) goes through the filter and comes out left hand circular.  Pictures to follow.

The new cabelas catolog shows a new digital display or maybe its the old one? That sure is a good fix for the sunlight Reretired, Nice job!!! Notice how the puck burner is almost at a 30° Angle, Thats odd?

And where did you find said filter? I assume they are readily available?  Just attached over the display?

I bought same from Hong Kong, Edmonds Scientific also sells CP filters.  I have some leftover due to minimum buy and would sell 5 x 10 cm CP filter for cost plus postage ($7).
