Today I've noticed when reading some forums, that a random word will be highlighted as a link, when I mouseover it, a little ad pops up.  How can I get rid of this?  Using Vista OS, and Google Chrome browser..can get you the version numbers if you need them.

Gotta wait for Hal or STC to log on, Sorry no help here Tim :(

Might be worth checking the extensions tab and seeing what you have. You might have a third party extension doing that. Look for something like 'Fastest Browse'. That's about all the help I can be.

Thanks Devo.  Unfortunately, the fixes suggested here did not resolve the issue, but as of today I fixed it by disabling an extension for Chrome, and will be deleting said extension and the associated program, as I no longer have a need for it.

Those words are links. And usually by paid subscribers other places imagine here too. But I dont get them on my Google chrome browser. Might be my popup blocker I have, plus Google  shuts a lot off on its own. Used to get so tired of that i quit using explorer. Never been happier. Just go into goggle apps and install a pop up blocker! ;D

I just try to not mouse over the links.  I'm using Windows XP and IE8 and I don't have a problem with these ad bombs.

The problem was a byproduct of a "torrent" program that I downloaded, called "torntv".  Extension has been disabled, and program has been removed, so problem is solved.

viper125

Hmm you do know torrents are for distribution of illegal copy writed work dont you! 8) And carries virues allso. :-X

My friend didn't advise me of the illegality, but I couldn't get the movie downloaded that I wanted anyway (Christmas Magic, the one I recommended here a while ago), so it was just sitting unused on my computer.  Figured it had to be virus associated, but Norton didn't tell me anything, and the links didn't start appearing right away..took about a week for them to show up (after installing the program and attempting download of the movie file).

Just funning with you. But illegal downloads and porno is the 2 biggest virus spreaders there is. And illegal movies. Are the worse. They just busted a lady with 2 kids and a minimum wage job. 450,000. Fine and 3 years.  They suspended a lot of the fine but was still a lot. And probation. But they are serious. Did you know its illegal to tape a football game and watch later with others. Unreal today!

Umm...no.  First, I don't know if anyone still TAPES something off their TV.   :D  However, it is not illegal to record a show, game, etc., for your own personal use to watch later.  If you tried to sell the recording you might have crossed the line.

viper125

Well tape is the wrong word. But yes if you watch the beginning of the game there is awarning on copy right. You can record and watch but you cant let others watch legally. Every one does nut its copyright enfringenent .

I think if you look further into it you'll find that recording for private home use is not a copyright infringement.
