I own the Black model.  Stainless and Black are the exact same unit except for the exterior.  If you can live without stainless steel, go with the black.  It's more of a personal preference.  When you do buy, get it from Chez Bubba.  Thats the only thing I wish I had done differently.  His service is top notch, and you get a discount on pucks.  Check into his scratch and dent inventory.  You'll save yourself some $$$$$.  Good luck.

Right now the Sportsmans Warehouse by me has the Black one for $299.99 with a cover ,VHS and a 60 puck pack. Is that a good deal? Their pucks sell for $14.99 per 48.

Thanks Again.

I have found that sportsman warehouse is typically overpriced on most everything.  I can understand buying from a place that is local though.  If you look at what you'll save buying from Chez Bubba in the long term, your money ahead.  Again, it's a personal preference and what your comfortable with.  Too answer your question, it's not a bad price on the smoker.  The selection of pucks is usually limited, and your paying FULL price every time you buy more pucks.  Then when your looking for alder or something SW doesn't sell, you'll be paying full price from Chez Bubba

I've got the SS model, as it happened I got a good deal when I bought it meaning that is worked out cheaper then what I could get a black one for.

Yes, it looks nice and after 18 months of regular use has shown no signs of rust or corrosion despite the fact that the stainless is at the lower end of the quality scale. Just a wipe over occasionally with a lightly oiled rag suffices and keeps it looking good.

However, for the difference in price if buying within a limited budget, in my view you would be much better putting the price difference towards a remote thermometer (eg Maverick ET-73), some fine meshed non-stick coated Jerky Racks and two or three Bubba Pucks. You would probably still have some $/£'s left over from the difference in the black and stainless models to buy a few differerent wood flavours to do some experimenting with as well! ;D

In case you hadn't noticed there are some new digital models on the market now, however I would either buy one of the old non-digital models if wanting to purchase now or wait until some more positive reports appear on the forum in relation to the new models.

Welcome to the forum.  ;)

Thanks to all you have been a big help. After reading the forum on the DBS I think I will wait awhile for that one.
