I've just bought the digital four rack smoker and at the same time purchased an Auber Dual Probe, although I havent had it all running as yet I did connect it all up and had a look at the programing. What I cant understand is how do I know that the Auber is running the smoker and oven and not the digital programer? Also what do I set on the original programer or does the Auber overide it. Any help would be grateful.

You don't do anything on the original. The PID overrides it.  You know that it's being controlled my the PID because the smoke tower is connected to it (pid) and the original power/controller is not connected to the PID. As far as I know, you can't control the smoke setting thru the PID with the digital model. I could be wrong.

Just wondering, why did you purchase a PID? Are you needing tight temp control? Did you upgrade to a 900w or dual 500w elements?
I ran mine for a couple of years stock before I did anything to it with no problems. I started doing fresh sausage so I did the mod. :)

Hi Mike thanks for the help and I bought the Auber after reading about the temperature fluctuations on here, just wanted the best setup as I could get.

In my opinion, I dont think that the PID is needed if you are going to be smoking things like chicken, butts, ribs, etc...  If you are needing tight temps for lets say fish, jerky, sausage, where you need to ramp up temps to that you dont dry/fat out the product, then yes its good to have. But hey, toys are nice to have even if they are not needed  ;) ;D
Since Ive been here Ive gotten lots of stuff I thought I would never own  ;D :o

Theres no mention of the sensor cable in the Auber instruction booklet so does that stay connected from the smoke generator to the smoker?

I have not moved to the more advanced stuff yet that needs the PID, one HUGE advantage and one of the reasons I got mine a few years ago was so I could leave the house have the temp go down when the IT hit its mark.   With kids the weekends get busy and one of the main reasons to go electric was so I didn't have to babysit it.

I can't remember if I bought it 3 or 4 years ago but I think it was the second batch of dual probe units.  ALARM?  Never heard it and I don't recall the manual mentioning it.  Was that a feature added to latter models?

When the PID finishes its set cycles, it will beep. You can also set a high temp shutoff, but I think that is more for safety than to use as a end of cook shutoff.

What model do you have?

Mine is the WSD-1201-CPH,  I know I read the manual a few times and don't recall anything in there about those features.  Will have to dig it up and check again.  I think mine was in the second batch of 30 they after the dual probe launch.

Not sure about the 1201 model but the current model 1203 of the dual probe, has this section in it's manual:

3) The third group is about the alarm. The alarm setting can be accessed by code 188.
Table 4 shows the list of the parameters, their range and initial set values.
Table 4. List of control parameters and its initial settings under code 188

Description
Range
Initial
AH1
Probe 1 high limit alarm

AL1
Probe 1 low limit alarm

AH2
Probe 2 high limit alarm
0-200 °C, 0-392 °F
200
AST
Step finish alarm

Detail of each parameter.
a) AH1, this is the high limit alarm for probe 1. Users can set the temperature so that if the system is out of control, the buzzer will be turned on. e.g. If AH1 is set to 290, the buzzer will turn on at 291 and off at 290. When the buzzer is on, the left window will flash between AH1 and the current temperature.
b) AL1 is the low limit alarm for probe 1. e.g. If AL1 is set to 100, the buzzer will be on when temperature drops to 100. It will turn off when the temperature reaches 101. This alarm is suppressed when first powered up. It will only function after the temperature has reached the set point once. When the buzzer is on, the left window will flash between AL1 and the current temperature.
16
c) AH2 is the high limit alarm for probe 2. If AH2 is set to 190, the buzzer will be on at 191 and off at 190. When the buzzer is on, the right window will flash between AH2 and the current temperature. When smoking multiple pieces of meat with different thicknesses, you can put the probe in the thinnest piece first. Set the alarm to the temperature when the meat is ready. It will let you know when it is done. Then, you can move the probe to the second thinnest pieces and so on. To use this feature, you can set the ending criteria as time. If you set the ending criteria to temperature, you need to set the ending temperature to be higher than the alarm temperature.
d) AST is the step ending alarm. When AST is turned on, the buzzer will beep 4 times when each step is finished. It is useful to notify the user the cooking step is finished. User can turn it off if no buzzer sound is wanted at the finish of each step.
Note: All alarms can be cancelled during beeping by pressing the "-"key.

Just dug up the PDF manual for mine dated April 2010.  Does not have those functions.  Must have been added to later models.   Thanks for the info.  I would look like an idiot if I told someone.  "Alarm, what Alarm?  It doesn't have no stinking alarm!"

I made a post over in the cold smoking section with a few issues I would like to resolve if you have any input.
