So pulled some parts off a stove I had that went through the tornado.  Has anyone tried doing this? I'm a little nervous about cutting a hole the size that it would require but I think it would be worth it for those long night smokes.  Also plan on hooking my fan up with the door switch when it gets here.

So am I crazy to attempt this? Anyone else ever try it?

I would think after a few smokes the bulb would get pretty nasty looking.

It has a globe that cam be removed.  Maybe clean it every so often?

Perhaps it will help generate a little more heat!  ;D

You have a 4 rack or a 6 rack? I ask because it may take up some room that you may need. With my four rack OBS I have cooked 2 9 lb butts and 2 12 lb briskets and it was a snug fit. I had already removed the Bradley door temp probe since it got in the way. So a light bulb could get in the way.

Also, wouldn't whatever you are cooking block the light?

6 rack.  Was thinking in top right corner.  Most I have done(yet) is 2 butts, just dont have enough people to eat more.  Going in the door may be a decent option.   It would only sit in the cabinet about an inch if I mount it like it was in the stove.

I use one of these. Hands are free to open and adjust your racks.

What about mounting the light on the outside of the cabinet on top with a hole underneath it and use one of the high temp glass covers inside a home oven on the inside of the cabinet?

I agree with Devo, i've got a headlamp i use. the inside of my smoker is BLACK, i can't see a light bulb lasting too long, and in the end, just something else you need to clean everytime you smoke.

Thats what it is.  High temp cover, with socket, bracket and bulb.  Yanked it all out of an oven earlier and the door switch.

I have a headlamp for work but its attached to my hardhat and kind of a pain to use now.  And thought it would be cool to have something unique.

Yup. I've got a couple different LED lights. One with straps similar to the one pictured and another that clips to the bill of a cap. Use em for night smoking, fishing, picking night crawlers etc. basically anything that requires both light and the use of both hands.

In that case, go for it, the only thing I would be leery of would be smoke damaging the door switch when the door is open. I would probably just put a switch on top of the cabinet and just flip it on when I'm smoking at night.

It was never mounted inside the oven.  It has a long rod that runs through and switch is in the back of the unit.  I found a place on the outside of the cabinet it will work.  Sucks that its a NO switch though.

During a long night smoke, I haven't found myself looking into the smoker.  My remote thermometer tells me the IT from the comfort of my well lit house, I don't need a lot of light to change the water, I try to time my cooks to be completed during daylight hours. Do you really need a light in the Bradley?  Seems to be a lot of work for little benefit.
