I just purchased a new digital electric smoker.  I set it up per the instructions and when I plugged it in, it would not turn on.  I would just see the panel flashing on for a second then turning off again for 5 seconds and then turning back on.  None of the buttons worked.  What did I do wrong or what is wrong with my smoker?

honestly i am not impressed on the digital machines see better results buying the basic smoker and doing your own upgrades like pid , fan a 900 or duel element .

Hi bsidle;

Sorry to welcome you to the forum under these circumstances.

You didn't do anything wrong. You may have a loose wire connection within the generator. If it is just out of the box and it is not too inconvenient to return it for a another smoker, then you should return it. If you have to ship it back, then it may be worth it to try fixing it yourself first.

The below link has helpful instructions on opening the generator. Check all connections, even the ones that look connected. Don't worry; opening the generator will not void your warranty.

You may also want to wiggle all plugs and make sure they are fully seated. Stiff new models sometimes have this issue which can result in no or Intermittent power.

Well,  I read this and called customer service which told me to open the generator and check the connections.  Did that.  No change, same problem.  The lower level of LED lights just flash on and off.  None of the buttons work.  Any other suggestions?  Very disappointing.

I can only suggest taking it back if you just purchased it & getting a replacement. Why waste anymore time, it's possible it may be defective.

I agree, call customer service back, and they will probably send you a new generator. Or if you bought it local, I would take it back and exchange it.

Thanks

I called customer service, gave them my serial number and they are sending a replacement.  Keeping my fingers crossed to start smoking for father's day!

Hi,

I just received my new digital smoker and I have exactly the same problem.

Did you manage to find a solution or are you waiting for the new one?

Thanks!

mistermuffin

Here's a video that shows the problem (you can hear the constant "tic" sound, too):

I tried to watch your video but for whatever reason it wouldn't run as it should on my computer.  When I plug in my 8 year old digital I hear an audible "beep" but it doesn't power up the display.  It only powers up the display when I press the "smoke generator" power button.  From that point forward the display is powered up and functions from there. Any chance that is part of your issue?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply!

Maybe you can try to download the video instead of playing it in your browser (just right click on it and choose Save...).

They sent me a new smoke generator and everything is working fine.  Now I am experimenting wand learning how to smoke.  So far so good
