Off-topic but maybe someone can help.

An applicaton outputs values in sets of 3. The values in the third collumn are the result of the first and second. How are the values in the third collumn obtained knowing only the values from the first two collumns?

Arcs_n_Sparks

robs,

The answer to your question:

Divide the first number by 10, using only the integer remainder. Add that to 26 times the 2nd number.

Ouch! Turns out my formula does not work for every case. I guess I was premature.

Thanks anyway Arcs_n_Sparks. Don't let it drive you made. I didn't sleep last night.

I do think that 26 is involved somehow. each group of 0, 1, 2, 3 is 26 in length.

I was also going this route (ie. for the number 14)
4 * 8 = 32
10 - 5 (which is the 4 + 1) = 5
32 - 5 = 27

Doesn't work for all though. Going this route I don't know how 0,1,2,3 (2nd collumn come to play)

Arcs-

Thanks, you got me much much closer than I was. So it looks like once we get to 3
for the second collumn, everything is off by 1. I double checked my data - it is accurate.

Thanks again!

Arcs_n_Sparks

robs,

The problem is complicated because there are not the same "number of numbers" for each sequence of the second digit. 25 numbers for 2nd number = 0, 26 for 2nd number = 1, then back to 25 digits for 2nd number = 2 and 3. Are you sure your application is generating the sequence you published?

Yes I'm sure. I was able to obtain a second sample. I will post soon.

New Sample: (1-101 hasn't changed). I wish I could talk about the application but I can't.
The type of application isn't relevant. I don't want anyone loosing sleep over this.

...math problem in hand. double D 38. Very clever Oldman.

I would have made this into a contest for pucks if I could afford it. That would have produced a quick answer!

I think I hooked Arcs in. The beast has him. I'm guessing he's an engineer of some sorts...or very competitive.

The neat part of my math problem is...she really is 5 foot 2 with eyes of blue and those are truely double D 38s.... but the hardest part is the division... just can't make up my mind on that one. However, the 1 + 1 = 2 I got down pat.  ;D

Unbelievable. You win all the marbles. I won't forget this.

Just to clarify - it's (digits in 1st column * 0.1) + (digits in 2nd column * 25.6)

Thanks Arcs

Arcs_n_Sparks

robs,

Yes, you have the math correct. You can plug it into an Excel spreadsheet and verify. The 25.6 suggests a binary progression, which is probably expected for your GIS application, but somewhat unusual.
