With the recent posts on Cuban Style BBQ Pork Roast, I believe some time ago you posted a recipe for a Cuban Sandwich, with pictures. For the life of me I could not find it. I want to first bump that post for others to read, and second the recipe was real good and I wanted to print it out to make it. I'm going to once again attempt another Cuban style BBQ roast using a picnic shoulder, so I thought I would also make a few sandwiches. For the life of me I could not find it, now I'm not sure whether or not you did post that recipe. I also checked the recipe site, and could not locate it on that site either. Do you recall that recipe or am I having sandwich flashbacks? ???

Hab,

The only sandwich I post about with images is that home made job of mine. It was not Cuban.
Some call it a Sandwich, For Others it is an Adventure

Did you not do this posting on Pan Cubano - (Cuban Bread ) ?

As far as what a real Cuban sandwich is the term here in Florida has become almost generic in nature.  Even the Cubans here fight over what is the original sandwich.  Some say pickle on the side. Other say sliced thin dill in the sandwich. Some say roasted pork. Others say Pordello (SP). Some say Genoa Salami. Other say Cotto Salami.  Some say boiled ham. Other say baked ham. Some use no mayonnaise. Other mix it with mustard. Some use Swiss cheese. Others Provolone.  Some grill the sandwich. Other press it. Some use Cuban bread. Others use Italian or French. It has become a cotton pickin' joke.

So with all of this said Hab, if I was going to build my own Cuban sandwich this is what I would use.

Cuba bread.
Mixture of Mayo and Yellow Mustard.
Thin sliced dill pickle in the sandwich.
A good Polish boiled ham.
Imported Swiss Cheese.
Roasted / slightly smoke pork (Boston butt.)
Genoa Salami.
Griddled on both sides in light butter using a weighted item on the top.

Served with your favorite red hot sauce-- add it as you eat~~!

As I said even the Cuban folks here cannot agree on this.  However, the one thing everyone agrees upon including me is the bread. It has to be a true Cuban. Also no tomato, lettuce etc..

Sorry Hab but this is the best I can share with you on this subject.

Thanks, this is the sandwich I was looking for. I guess it was the fact that you used Cuban bread is why I thought it was a Cuban sandwich you had posted.

I guess asking different Cubans how do you make a Cuban sandwich is like asking different Americans how do you make chili; it's all going to be different.

Yes, I did post the recipe for Pan Cubano, and made some about a 1 1/2 weeks ago to go with a Cuban style BBQ shoulder pork roast. At the time we didn't make sandwiches. The pork was served with rice and bean, and fried plantain.
