This a letter I've written to my congress man. If you own a gun take time to find out about HR 1022.

Greetings Sir,

It looks like Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) is at it again. She has reintroduced , in the form of HR 1022, the Clinton semi-auto gun ban that sunset a couple of years ago.

I'm a small business owner of 57 years of age. My wife is a school teach with 35 years in one school. Given recent event(s) such as Katrina and how so many folks were not able to defend themselves, I find one part of this bill that make me think that Carolyn McCarthy as a child must have fell off of the turnip truck and hit her head on the ground.

Allow me to explain. One of our home defense weapons is a Ruger Mini - 14. It shoots a 223 or a 5.56 (Nato) round. It is one of the "Good Guns." However, if I was to remove it from its wood stock and place it into a pistol grip composite gun stock under her  bill the "Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007" it now is a Bad Gun!"

This is not acceptable to Susan nor myself.  Clearly, this bill is nothing
less than an infringement on our rights as gun owners.

Clearly,  Carolyn McCarthy has never served our country other than as a politician. If she had she would know what an true Assault Weapon is.

Clearly,  Carolyn McCarthy does not or will not accept facts.

1. The Justice Department reported that the Clinton semi-auto gun ban's impact on gun violence was small at best, and too small to be statistically valid.

2. That states who adopted concealed carry laws had significant decreases in violent crime while states and cities maintaining strict gun control laws continued to have the nation's highest rates of violent crime.

What gets us the most, is given this county's real problems Carolyn McCarthy focus is on wasting our time and or tax dollars concerning what type of stock I have on my gun.  If she gets HR 1022 passed the next item she will go after is my Mossberg 500  (12g) shotgun as it has a pistol grip composite gun stock.

Thank you for your time concerning this matter, and we urge you to oppose this or any other gun grabbing bill in the 110th Congress.

We had the government talking about banning all automatic and semi-automatic guns as they have no applicability to hunting.  Once the hunters stopped laughing, we had to educate the government in a hurry that semi-auto's are very much a part of our hunting heritage.

Kind of tell syou what the mind set is of those making up the rules.

I remind people that the Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting, although the politicians would like to limit you to "sporting" firearms in that context.

Very true A-n-S . That's part of a bait-n-switch kind of deal on Capitol Hill.................Eyes open

Well my guns are not for hunting.... their for stopping people who wish to hurt / kill / rape my family.  Make no doubts about it.  I do not hunt.  I don't care to shoot someone. Nevertheless, the person who attacks us or enters my home with the wrong intentions and it will be a moot point as one of us is going to be very dead -- very quickly.
