Hey all... just got a BS for Father's Day... a bit early but I am psyched... anyway... lots of questions... want to get a bone in pork butt on tonight... question: if I put in enough wood for 4 hours of smoke... do I have to turn off the smoke generator at that point?

Thanks

What version of BS did you get, original or digital?
Many of the folks usually leave the smoke gen on to help with the heat but the puck advance will continue to cycle.

I have the digital and leave the burner on for 20 minutes after the last wood for the bubba puck to burn off the buildup.  I don't use the BS for an oven after that point.  I do the oven in the house convection oven that has very tight temp control plus I can use the oven thermometer for the internal set temperature.  Even though the BS requires less baby sitting than most other smokers, my house oven appeals to my laziness even more.   :D

Original BS... I was curious about leaving the puck heater running for long periods of time... my thought was one less thing to burn up or break.... thought I would just turn it off after the 4 hours of smoke... where did you get the bubba pucks? how much are they?

I have 3 racks of baby back ribs on... each with a different rub and a pork butt with Coopers Rub... hope I figure this whole thing out..

Chez Bubba for the pucks but he is going out of business.  He has posted a link to a person that will be carrying them.

If you have any metal working friends, you can get them to cut off a piece of 2-1/4 inch aluminum stock about 9/16 inches thick.

I let my puck burner continue for the extra heat it provides.  No difficulties encountered thus far.
May the fragrance of thin blue smoke always grace your backyard.

Same here, although I may start finishing in the house oven in the near future for the long smokes when the rainey season hits.

Just a thought here, as I'm a rookie also. You can purchase a timer from radio shack. The timer pulgs into wall socket/ then you plug-in electerical device and set it to turn on or off. We use one in the kitchen.  We load dutch oven with a meal and set the timer to turn on later in the morning so dinner is ready when we get home from work. They work well.
