Just bought my BDS a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed smoking with is when the weather will allow.

I see a lot of people mentioning bubba pucks, what are they and where can you get them?  Do you make them yourselves?

Tiny Tim

They're aluminum pucks the same size as the wood bisquettes.  I think there's a link to the manufacturer in the "Accessories" forum, and another member sells them at his store...http://www.yardandpool.com.  I sell Bradley Smokers and Accessories too, but have not found a way to get the pucks and be competitive on price, so I don't sell them.  Link to my website and store info is in my signature line.

Bubba pucks are aluminum pucks that are the same size as a wooden bisquette. They are used to push the wooden pucks into the water bowl. The advantage is not wasting expensive wooden pucks which will burn at least in half on the burner when you use them to push spent pucks into the water. The person I bought mine from no longer sells them, but there are a couple of people on the forum that do sell them. I suggest buying three.

You beat me to it, TT. I thought it was yardandpool.com that sold them, but I was going to check and make sure before I posted.

Thanks guys for the information I am ordering mine today. :D

Ontrack

Great. If you do a lot of smoking, they will pay for themselves quickly as opposed to burning extra pucks.

I just bought 3 "Bubba pucks" & I know this is probably a stupid question, but I would place the 3 "Bubba Pucks" at the top (end) of all my Wooden Bisquettes right?

Gizmo

Correct.  They go on the top of the stack of wood bisquettes.  When using 3, the first bubba puck will end up on the burner if you add 20 minutes to the total smoke time.  Many do this to have the plate burn off wood residue.

Thanks Gizmo...I have another question...Do you put water in the bowl or the Tray at the bottom? Seems to me that if you put water in the bowl the Bisquette Ash going into the water would make for a bad meat flavor.

Gizmo

Water goes in the bowl.  Fill about 3/4 full.  The water extinguishes the puck which is usually pretty well spent but does not create an ash out taste.  The water also prevents the fat drippings in the bowl from starting on fire.  The large tray below is to collect any spillage or drippings that don't get funneled into the water bowl.  Some folks will replace the water bowl with a larger foil pan with more water for the long smokes.  You can also exchange out the water after the smoke to ensure the water bowl does not go dry.
