Fellow smokers!

I have lost the 800 number to Bradley, hope some one can send it to me. The temp slide has once again gone haywire. It is less than six months old can't get above 130 degrees. Have changed electric out lets and the same results. Will try and replace the control. I expect Bradley to send another one free!

The BS gives great results, but not at all maint.free.
I've had mine a month suppose i'm next.

Red,

When you smoke, do you have liquid coming out the bottom of your smoker?

Ya think next time I check into a hotel & they ask "Smoking or Non?" they would mind?

No liquid comes out. Same thing BS support asked me. I guess they were trying to say I got it wet. Not the case. Even if it was, should not the system be built to avoid a moisture issue? I would think so. My friend has a cookshack with the heat control on top and never seems to have a problem with his electric smoker and the food is not bad.

Not necessarily, as there have been users who do not clean their water bowl out until the next time they smoke. The ash & fat combine to form lye and eat little pinholes in the bowl so eventually, all that water you fill it up with runs out.

There have also been users that have never felt the need to empty & refill the bowl during a 14-hour smoke with 3 butts! Couple that with keeping the top vent completly closed and you're going to have moisture issues.

That's why the question was asked, but since you don't have any liquid coming out (ruining the temp control board), it really doesn't apply to your situation.

There is a phenomena that the smoker won't reach full temp if the ceramic bulb holder screws are not tight. DON'T WRENCH ON THESE, FINGER-TIGHT + A BIT IS SUFFICIENT. Otherwise you'll crack the holders.

You're not using an extention cord are you?

My only other thought is maybe you have a defective bulb. I've never heard of one, but hey, we gotta get you up & running somehow.[:)] Ask them to send you a replacement one.

FIRST THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT FOLLOW-UP. I GUESS SOME PEOPLE DON'T THINK ABOUT MAINTAINING THEIR BS. NOW, YES I DO USE AN EXTENSION CORD SINCE I MUST WHAT EFFECT WILL THIS HAVE OR NOT HAVE? IF THERE IS AN EFFECT, WHAT TYPE OF EXTENSION CORD SHOULD I USE? THANKS IN ADVANCE SORRY FOR SO MANY QUESTIONS BUT I AM STILL LEARNING THIS SMOKING STUFF.[:o)]

BigRed,

You don't have to apologize. There is nothing worse than having your smoker you have grown to love crap out on you.

I myself have my BS on a 50ft~~thats right a 50 footer. YOU MUST GET AT LEAST A 12 GAUGE HEAVY DUTY extension cord . This will cost you of course, don't try and get one from WalleyWorld, go to HomeDepot or simular. Try and get the shortest one possible for your needs, if 10 footer will do it, get that. DO NOT GET A 14 gauge, you could have problems. Specificly look for 12 gauge, don't be fooled by the words HEAVY DUTY, you can get a 10 gauge but I feel that is probably over kill and too expensive. HTH and if you any other question, let~er rip.

It's not how much you smoke but how many friends you make while doing it...

Chez Bubba

Yup, what Mallard said. Basically, your extension cord is restricting the flow of juice due to it's limitations & the Bradley can't get enough "food".

Mallard and Chez!

Thanks for the advice on the cord. I may just make a custom cord from 12 gauge wit a three prong male and female ends. I have a feeling that my problems with the temp. control would be solved with a raptor temp.control system that would take a lot of the "Lemon" out of my BS. Have to save my pennies! Again, thanks guys!!

BigRED

Chez Bubba

Red,

You definately have to have a 3-pronger. Hope you saved those "bad" boards as they're probably really OK.

I'm not sure if I am understanding your statement correctly.

The raptor/guru, will not solve your problem, if your BS is can not provide sufficient heat. The raptor/guru only regulates the heat source that the BS can produce; it does not produce any heat. For example, if you BS can only produce temperatures no higher than 130 degrees; and you set the raptor/guru to maintain the BS at 225 degrees, the BS will still only reach 130 degrees.

Great Idea, and would probably save a couple $$$. You should be able to make a nice one with no problem. Let us know...

Hab!

I meant to say once I had the new temp. slide control I could use the raptor system. I don't completely understand this new additional equipment but want to learn more about it .

The best way to describe the guru/raptor, is as a very advance, accurate and sophisticated thermostat. You just set the meat and cabinet temperatures, and you don't have to worry about adjusting the temperature controls on the cabinet. An alarm will let you know when the meat temperature has been reached, or if the cabinet temperature is out of range.

I won't go into the ramp mode, because that if explained in detailed on the Guru website. There are no instructions that come with the guru/raptor. The ramp mode is the default setting. To disable the ramp mode, set the meat temperature to zero before turning on the guru.
