When MS gets out of the browser biz.  I consider it payback for what they did to Netscape.  Karma's a b***h.

can microsoft get anything right??

and people wonder why i changed from microsoft to linux!!!!

1000 % more secure and stable

Gotta agree with you Beefman. I've almost completely switched to Ubuntu linux at home. (I admit I'm using windows at the moment... Just happened to be using it to push some data to the network drive.) I've also been using firefox as my browser for quite some time now... The latest version(s) of the popular linux flavors have been very easy to install and provide almost all of the windows functionality.  Mainly I keep this machine running to use MS Flight Simulator X and SlingPlayer.

I also have a couple of mac minis on my home network. One I use just to keep up with the latest mac stuff.  The other I re-formatted and installed Ubuntu 8.10 and use to run the frontend for my home network...

Cheers..

I hardly ever use IE anymore almost exclusively use Firefox.

Dang....I have a hard time turning the computer on let alone trying to figure out a different internet thingy.  My computer runs so slow most times that I have to kick the hamster from time to time just to get him to run faster to post pics.  I think I'm doomed  :(

Pretty strange, I am using Vista 64 bit, that I don't really like it that much, and after reading this post I decided to try Mozilla Firefox just for grins. Now I have a spell checker in my posts on this forum. When I do boo-boo it is underlined in red. Why, I dunno. In the Char-Broil Big Easy forum it gives you a chance to spell check before you post. I guess they are using a higher level software than Bradley has provided us.
Give it a try and report your results please.

Mr Walleye

For anybody that whats it, here is an IE spell checker that I use. It appears on a right click with the cursor over the text area. Works good.

Thanks for the info Mike.

If you have the Google Tool bar, they have a spell checker add on also.

The Big Easy site has a newer version of of "Simple machines forum" then the Bradley site. That is why they have a spell checker. Their search engine is the same which is not very good.
I am surprised that the Bradley site has not been updated. I use IE spell which works fine.

i currently use xandros .. and am testing and playing with solaris .. sloaris looks great so far just a pain to set up the first user and it comes with a office suite.

awhile back i talked with a micro soft vp of sales and asked why should pay $ 400 for an operating system and $600 for an office suite when i can get an more stable, more secure operating system and office suite for  free that does the same as theres.. he asked which company  was giving the operating system and office away  for free and i said sun microsystems...

need i say  more?

Everyone is more than allowed to use whatever they want. In my world WWWF, DSS, JPAS, & CCR only support IE.

Personally I get real tired of people bashing MS. Let me ask those who think it is good to do so just how many millions of dollars has Sun Microsystems, Mozilla Firefox,  Netscape & the rest given to help the world?

Bashing Bill & Melinda Gates is just a weak poor-man's sport. You want to use something else that is find, but stop with the trash talking about a company / family that has given millions and millions to this world in effort to releave suffering.

If MS was to go poof then all of these hackers would then turn their attention to the rest....

Oldman I meant no offense and I am definitely not bashing Bill and Melinda Gates or Microsoft. If it weren't for them I may not have had the job I had for the last ten years. I have all the respect in the world for their altruistic endeavors... I've been a Windows guy for years and still jump in to defend Microsoft and Windows when I see or hear folks taking unfair pot-shots. If it weren't for Microsoft we just may not have the opportunity to have this discussion, in this format.

That being said I am a major tinkerer. I've been in IT for quite a few years and that's just what I do to amuse myself and learn. I am very impressed at the amount of quality, free, open source software available for the linux platform, however there is also a great deal of quality free software for windows also if you look for it. I'm a total computer geek so I spend a lot of time building systems and breaking systems as well as trying out the new stuff; Windows, Linux, Unix, Solaris, or Mac OS...  This competition drives innovation...

In a nutshell: Use what works best for you..... and keep on smokin'!!!!

Cheers

Not seeing any connection between MS and the Gates Foundation, I don't see how that's germane.  Bill can be all the sweetheart he wants now, but how did he get that money in the first place, and how many folks did his company ruin to get there?  A man's charity is in no way relevant to the products produced by the company he founded.

As far as "security through obscurity," that's a a fairly hackneyed and bankrupt argument. Windows in general (and IE in particular) have been ridden with holes since day one.  It's not because there are so many installations out there, its because it's so easy. More systems across the globe are *nix-based than Windows-based, and rarely hit with the number of successful attacks that MS products have.  There's a reason that the Unix kernel has been powering the world for 40 years.
