They are 2 aluminum disks, same shape and size as the bisquettes. People use them to finish their smoke time without getting halfburnt bisquettes and that bitter taste that otherwise comes with the last one burned. For example if you wanted 2 hours of smoke, you load 6 bisquettes, 2 Bubba pucks and then 1 more bisquette. The last one remains unburnt so you don't have to worry about that. Chez sells them from his site.

Or you can get an extra bubba puck from Chez so you don't have to load a wood one in last.
I don't like handling the pucks more than needed, they do crumble fairly easily, I don't want to expose them to the outside humidity etc for hours, I don't want to have to retrieve the puck from the puck feeder, then have remember which wood it was and repackage it.

Not that any of these are a 'big' deal, but for me, the extra bubba puck is worth it.

Birdboy is right on the money with that advice -- 3 Bubba Pucks is worth it!

I went to my local blacksmith and he made me three solid steel pucks.
So do I put in all three in the feeder when I think I have enough smoke?  [it's 25degrees here right now and I have two turkey breast that went in about 30 minutes ago.  The cooker temp has just passed through 70 degrees C and and I have the heat slide full bore open.
Do you think I'll get there?]
I also have one of those remote thermocouple thermomemters plugged through the oven door. It's set a 170F for the breasts.  I would assume when I run outa smoke after about 3 hrs, I just keep on trucking???

2203119  Can I just call you "22?" [:D] [:D]

Most folks know how much smoke they are going to use for the smoke, and load up that many bisquettes...ie  12 for 4 hrs.  I just load up what I want, put a couple of bubba pucks on top, one extra bisquette on top of that to push the last aluminum puck forward, and just walk away, returning in 4 hours to change the water and rotate meat shelves.  Door doesn't open again until the smoke is completed, unless it is ribs.  I mop the last hour in the smoker with sauce then let them finish out.

Do you sometimes kind of feel like a number? [:D]

The idea for the steel pucks is to have all three loaded on  top of the stack of wood bisquettes that you decide that you will need. This way as the last wood has smoked for the preset time of the generator, a metal puck will advanced onto the wood burner element. This is the maximum reach of the advance on the generator. All the wood has burned clean, and you now have a metal puck that will not smolder down to ash, sitting on the hot plate.
Your estimate of smoke time sounds about right. After the smoke is done, just keep cooking until you reach 170 Internal Temp. You can leave the smoke generator on if you want, this will give it more heat.

Good Luck!

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">The bubba pucks are very handy,I do love them.
Only problem is, I was charged $9.23 for shipping and handling when I ordered mine on 02/07/05 off of the web site. When I received them I noticed the "real" shipping cost was only $2.21.
I was over charged on shipping $7.02.for 2 little metal disc's.
I dont feel that is right. And I think anyone who wants to order these should know of the <b>inflated shipping</b> that you will be charged<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">

No, you are mistaken concerning this issue. I've talked with Chez about this before and it is that damn Paypal that gets those monies. I wish I had known you were going to order them as I would have suggested just calling him direct and the shipping charges would have reflected a more realistic price. Shipping and handling in not a profit center for Chez. If it was he would have just add another 10 bucks to the selling price, and you would not have known the difference. Chez is just being open about it.

Furthermore, these pucks have to be packaged by Chez, and those materials cost must be included.

This is one reason I refuse to purchase anything from anyone via paypal. Some folks might ship an item and hide this cost within their pricing. No matter what, that cost is real. Hidden or not you're paying Paypal. Paypal does not offer a free service. It charges those who use its service. Those cost should not be deducted from the gross profit margin that a vendor has established as the base-line for doing business.

In the future, may I suggest if you have a problem with any company that you contact them directly before you blast them on public posting boards. At least give them a chance to address your concerns.

Currently I have an issue to resolve with a company. Once I'm at the end of the road I will then address this issue Pro or Con on the boards.

Or just cut your own puck from solid wood for the third puck. No reason it has to be metal.
