I didn't want to hi-jack Olds and Ducks threads but anyone else like this show? He gets to some great places I'd like to hit up.
And that show on the Travel Channel where he eats pounds of food, :o :o 'Man vs. Food', or something like that. Another great show.

Yea, HCT....both good shows.  I like Guy......he went to a NY style pizzaria a couple fo weeks ago......was awesome.  I don't watch Man v. Food that much.......if I wanted to watch a guy gorge himslef, I'd videotape me in front of some pulled pork  ;D

I really get a kick outta the show or should I say the places he goes.  Some of those places really shine.  Nashville is about as banal gastronomically that I would want to live.  I look at some of those places and the prices that are posted and I say Wow.  $7 or $8 sandwich that is a foot tall because of all the meat piled on it.  There is only one place here that gets anywhere close to that.  The pubs/bars that have the good looking "cuisine" like the one on a couple of weeks ago that served some dang good looking snails.  Find that here - sure!  The restaurants don't even do that well - mostly chains here and the non-chains are weird and $$$$$$.  What really sold me on the show was the first show I saw about some diners that do breakfast big time with they throw all including the kitchen sink on a plate and sell it as breakfast.  It got me inspired and I have come up with some pretty good constructions myself.

Funny thing about the show - take one look at my pic, and you could probably pretty well tell what side of the conservative/liberal line I stand on!  But there is something about him that allows me to overlook his hair, tats, short pants, piercings, shades, and "modern" attitude.

Hey Duck, I caught one or two of his shows, the one that got me was the 5lb hamburger. Even in my younger days I couldn't eat that. Where does he put it? :o

Caney, I try not to look at or listen to Guy, just can't handle his style, prolly a nice guy though. My bad.
But the places are incredible. :) :)

I think it was actually an 8 lb burger.........heck, I couldn't even eat the bun in one setting.  The guys that can eat that much in one setting are a freak of nature.........I'm just glad it isn't me......can you imagine what the food bill would be for those guys who can eat like that?  I gotta think those who gorge and do the speed eating really stretch out the stomach and in the long run, that can't be too good for you.

Ha, I originally typed in 8 lbs. but then I said that can't be right, noone could put that much inside themselves, even 5 seems absurd, good, :D but absurd.

HCT,

Have you ever been to the diner in CT that he went to recently?  Can't remember the name, O'Rourkes (maybe),  think it might be in Middletown.  It's the one that burned a few years ago & was rebuilt.   It looked good.

Deb, I haven't been there but I saw the show. Is that the place where they steam the burgers?

yes that's it.  I have been here 4 years and yet to try a steamed burger.  There is a place in Meriden that does them too.

HCT

YESSSSSS, The place in Meriden is what I'm thinking of. They were on one of the shows also.

HCT love the show.  The host can be a little much but he definitely goes to the kind of places I would like to spend time in.  We live on a small island with very few food alternatives and food porn is important!  Get lots of good ideas from the show.

Man vs. Food, not quite so much my thing.  Have seen just a few shows and appreciate some of the places he visits but seeing his buddy stick his finger down his throat to purge some pizza was just too much!

My wife and I were comparing pizza stories and as I told here even in my teenage, eat my weight in food every three hours mode a friend and I could only eat about four slices of a 5 pound pizza a local place used to make.  We were both about 16 and large hungry boys but never even managed half a pizza.

On the other hand I have a slender friend about half my size that can easily put away three times the food that I can at any time.  It's a pure pleasure to watch him eat but I wouldn't dream of keeping up with him.

SS, Mr and I love D, D, & D!!!
I think we have seen Man Versus Food once or twice - it is rather sickening to watch someone put away so much food....

Only one thing better than the show, going to the places he goes to.

I'm waiting for one of them to show up at a local pub about twenty minutes from me. This place was on a Food Network show before but I do not remember which show. They have the latest record for the largest burger. Over 100 pounds! They offer burger challenges starting at two pounds and goes up from there. Check out their add below.

HCT

I'd give the 2 pounder a shot. :P
