I just picked up a couple of new redi check maverick smoker thermometers to replace my dead ones. I can't seem to find the wiring post on the antenna upgrade. Can you folks help me out?  :) Thanks.

Pat, I did not know the antenna could be upgraded. I'm looking at the web site now and found a bunch of manuals. I also got an email address if you want to fire off an email to them.

I'll keep looking, I assume you have the ET-73?

SD, the second link is what I think he needs. I never heard of anyone doing that before but its a great idea if you can solder.

I may have to open up my ET7 to see if its possible to upgrade it also.

Thanks for the link, Nepas!  Now that's something I think I could do and not screw it up.  I often wondered why in the world they put the on/off switch underneath the cover.  Makes no sense to me.

The switch is not weather resistant. That's why they put it under the cover. a more expensive sealed switch would drive the price up ?

I forgot about the antenna mod. I'll try to get that on the recipe site.

Could be, FL.  I never leave the transmitter in a location where it's in a position to get wet anyways.  If there is a mist or snow that is getting onto my smoker, I've always taken a sandwich bag and placed it in there.  Works well enough to keep it from getting wet.  I am not a fan of that switch anyways and will be doing the mod on it so that I don't have to keep taking the cover off.

On a side note, has anyone else had problems with the reception or transmission of their ET-73?  I've never had a problem but I've always assumed that's because my smoker is on a covered porch attached to the house, so the distance of my transmission is never really over 50' max.  I could understand why Iceman would need the upgrade to transmit from his ideal smokehouse setup to the house but I'm wondering if the upgrade is worth the risk of breaking it?

I just purchased one a week ago along with a Auber PID and did a test run to make sure both worked. My smoker is in my garage which is 24' x24' and is insulated and unattached from my house about 30' away. With everything setup I input some times and temps on my Auber PID and set up my Maverick and went in the house and waited to see if it worked. I would guess I was 60-70 feet away from my smoker and going through 2 walls and it seemed to work great. The true test will be this weekend when I make some summer sausage. :)

thanks for the reminder.  And NePA thanks for that vid link.  That is a mod I need to do.  Honestly I stopped using the 73 and use a simple probe because of that dang switch under the cover.  Just not convenient.  I need to do the antennae mod also.  smoker is in garage and about 35 feet away on other side of exterior wall I don't get a signal at all.  It is real annoying, I need to go into the garage a lot.  About a year ago I was doing a big load of Butt and I got up at 4 AM and heard the alarm going off but not till I got into the garage.  Just a slight overdone.  But all worked out great.

Thanks again.
