I don't know where I have seen it but I thought I saw some directions on what you need to do to see if your remote thermometr is working correctly.  Something about boiling water type thing.  Yes I know it's 212 something but when I test my probe it stays around 190 or so in boiling water.  Does any one have those directions???

It's not how much you smoke but how many friends you make while doing it...

I had to check out this topic, it sounded X-rated. But try this:

If you have the Maverick you can also test it with ice water. Place several several ice cubes in a glass of water, when you place the probes in the water make sure they do not touch the sides or bottom of the container.

I don't have my manual with me, that give the instructions on how to calibrate. You can go to this site http://www.maverickhousewares.com/manuals.htm and download a copy of the manual in pdf file.

Duck-man, that's too far off to be reasonable unless there's a place in Arkansas that's above 10,000 feet and you live there . . .

Before returning/trashing the unit, make sure the probe is properly immersed in the boiling water (usually at least an inch or two).  You probably did, but just in case . . . [8D]

Hey Olds,

Does the new board have a place for "Tips and Tricks"?  A piece on 'Calibrating a thermometer" would be useful.  It can simply be a link to the Virtual Weber site that RhinoDoc listed in his post.

I bet we can think of other tips and tricks that might not be covered in other sections . . .  eye yi yi, more work [:D][:D][:D]

You're lucky they didn't do a subtotal walletectomy on you![:)]

Last time I went to my doc with a problem he took some X-rays.  The doctor comes in and says "We can fix the problem but it will cost you $1,000".  I told I only had $100 and asked him what he could do.  He said "For $100, we can touch up your X-rays . . ."[;)]

MW;
What brand and make of thermometer do you have? I looked at my Maverick ET-73 documentation, and there are no instructions on how to calibrate, once you tested your thermometer for accuracy. As always, if it is a digital, and you still get the same results, I would also check the batteries.

I am enjoying the humor. I try to check in everyday to see what is new. I am learning a lot. Our weather has been about 20 with freezing rain the last week and too cold to smoke. I will be glad when it warms up a bit and I can get back to my smoking. I catch myself laughing out loud while reading some of these postings.

Whaddya mean too cold to smoke?  Talk to ColdSmoke and some of the other Canadian smokers.  In Massachusetts, its going down to -5F tonight and I'm smoking a ham from Midnite to 7AM.  I wouldn't say its balmy, and some would say I'm balmy, but unless you have to have your BS out in wet weather, you can definitely keep smokin'!

What part of USA?  I'm looking for North East BSers . . .

I live in washington state. It has been snowing and freezing rain the last few days. Right now it is pouring down rain. Way to wet for my bs. I just took elk steak out of the freezer to defrost to make jerky when the weather breaks. I hope it will be soon! I haven't smoked in 6 days![:(]

Sorry to hear that you're not from the NE, and even sorrier that the weather is so bad for smokin' right now.  I'm lucky enough to have the BS on a covered porch, so I can smoke in almost anything but a Nor'easter . . .[:)]
