OK, what we do is our own "Iron Chef" competition. I will have a list of "secret ingredients." They consist of one meat and two "other" ingredients. My wife does a blind drawing of one meat and two mystery ingredients. I post said ingredients and yall have two weeks to come up with a dish. It must be primarily cooked outside on grills, smokers, car engines, etc.... There is usually a two week period for creativity and fitting in everyone's schedule. Once the two week period is over a thread opens up for entries and you have to post pics of the process and a final plated dish.  A poll will be created and we vote. It's pretty fun and some of the dishes will be incredible!! It's just a way to get the creative juices flowing and get out of a rut and maybe cook something you've never tried!!  We will have a "smack talk" thread going. All 3 ingredients must be used in the one dish.

Basic Iron Chef rules:

Be creative on your recipes.

It can be as simple as a new ABT or a recipe that would take a snooty waiter in a fancy-schmancy restaurant 10 minutes to describe.

At least 80% of the cook time must be done in the Bradley Smoker. Up to 20% of the cook time can be done on the stove, oven, grill or other cooking method.

Use any spices or pre-made BBQ sauces, or other goodies as you wish.

The recipe is not limited to just the 3 main ingredients. Your pantry is open and anything is fair game to be used in your recipe. As long as the meat and two other ingredients are in one dish. ie...one bite gets all three ingredients.

It can be breakfast, brunch, lunch, or supper, or midnight snack.

Voting will be done in the form of a poll. You will only have to pick your favorite and vote for that one.

Do not post any entries until the turn-in date. That date will be Example:Monday, February 11. Entries may be posted beginning at 5pm on that date with a cutoff time of 5pm Tuesday evening. Hopefully that will take into account everyone's working schedule.

You have two weeks to prepare.

This thread will be locked once posted and then opened just for entries after two weeks. There will be a comments/discussion thread.

I am currently putting together the meats list and an others list any and all suggestions will be added to the lists once we have enough items for the lists I will do the drawing and post the lists. What are your thoughts on this contest?

You would be all on your own with a significant other if you have one. As long as it looks good in the picture you can do it UIS!!! It's all about having fun with your food and being creative.

See it didn't take long for you to find something to do with that 4 extra hours you have at home each week.  ;D

smokeitall

I'm in.

How about a small entrance fee (like $5) and the winner gets a few boxes of Bisquettes or something that adds up to the total, after all you said competition.

It would still be fun for bragging rights to with no entrance fee.

La Quinta

I'm totally in this!!! It would be helpful if you don't make the meat anything that we can't all get please? I live in a desert...if you make it lizards...I'm fine!!!!  ;D Or cactus...good too...uh...well...I could go on...but I won't!!!  :D

Not 4 hours but more like 12 hours, I would rather be working its easier than the "Honey Do" List. Almost had to do dishes tonight, but lucked out and had to go show some Boy Scouts how to make Brats for their camp out next month.

I'm good with the above...maybe throw in some pots or as I read we can do that on our own? Is it a full meal? Like 3 courses? A veg, a meat, and a veg?

LQ That would be toooooo easy!!! Its a one dish meal. Must taste all three items in the same bite!! Makes it, MORE FUN!!!

Sorry I said veg 2x...ok...so just a main that contains a meat and veg? Sorry if I'm being anal...I do this with my friends...what about a lovely little side of dessert? (Just asking?)  ;D

My first inclination is to start with "raw" meats and veggies as the basic ingredients - no existing enhancements like already fried, breaded, smoked, or whatever.  You could add processed foods but the 3 main ingredients probably ought to be au naturel.

What about commercial rubs and sauces?

I'd probably stay with "basic" meats with potential for various interpretations.  Shouldn't chicken and/or turkey be in in the hat?  Parts or whole?  Not sure about shrimp as the "main ingredient" but what do I know?

Come to think of it, why have specific cuts at all?  Why not just say, "Make something out of pig (or cow or chicken) and celery and peanuts?"
